Ending the lockdown early is almost certain to cause the number of infections and consequent deaths to skyrocket. This year's season at Ravinia has been cancelled due to COVID. Given that, at quite a few concerts this year, the lawn could be extremely crowded, at a "you would probably need to know parkour to get to your spot without bumping into people when going back from the restrooms" level, and many are hesitant to go to live concerts until a vaccine comes, (which will be the end of the year according the most optimistic estimates), it's understandable. And by an extraordinary stroke of luck, I at least have something to write about for my "how is COVID affecting businesses" diary, since yesterday, I realised that, even with new businesses, I feel like there's no new ground to tread with regards to how such and such a business is pivoting from making luxuries to creating medical necessities, or how such and such business is reopening cautiously, with reduced numbers, strictly implemented social distancing protocols, and regular testing, or how yet another is trying to find ways to keep in touch with their customers via Zoom. There's only so many ways I can keep telling the same story before I feel like I'm just repeating myself. Funny thing is, before I got the news, I decided I'd experiment with different forms of diary entries. It might have been interesting to talk about some COVID adjustment plan for businesses in blank verse just to keep myself from wanting to trepan myself out of burnout.
