Fucker's older than you are. Lunch could kill him.  Popcorn

I should point out that he does not exercise, sleeps an average of four hours per day, and subsists largely on fast food, and not only has he lasted this long (and is apparently in decent physical health), but it should also be noted that his parents and grandparents (with the sole exception of Fred Christ Trump) all lived to a minimum age of 85. That said, Fred Christ Trump did die in the 1918 pandemic, so that's still a possibility.

Nope.

That isn't how it would go.

Pence would take over - and serve as president until the inauguration - but he is not himself running - and is not on the ballot......

The Electoral College would vote and pick from the remainder of the eligible candidates.....

Probable outcome - a Libertarian getting the office.I

Edit to add - my op question should read BEFORE the election... My mistake..

Bar your edit, what I said is EXACTLY how it would go (20th amendment).

But I don’t think you’ve got it right. If Biden and Trump both die before the election, the most likely scenario is for Pence and Biden’s running mate to move into the top slots. Vice presidential candidates ARE on the ballot, and the Electors vote for them, just as they do for president (12th amendment).

So, the election would take place, but Pence would become president at least until the election, at which point either he or Biden’s running mate would be the president elect.

Nope...

If Biden and Trump die just before the election - the running mates do NOT get an automatic bump up to presidential candidate......

You are confusing Presidents and Presidential candidates and the rules they live under.......

If the Electoral College wanted to vote for Pence or Biden's VP candidate - they would have to do so by write in vote - as neither was an official party candidate.... I seem to recall that several states don't even allow that.

So the outcome would be a 3rd party candidate...

Might be a third party candidate.

Ok, I did a bit more checking. We’re both kinda right and kinda wrong.

If both president candidates die before  the election, the VP candidates don’t automatically move into the top spot (point for you).

BUT the Electoral College doesn’t pick the new candidates - the parties do. The likeliest scenario is that they would pick the surviving running mates, since they already have the election machinery in place for those people and no other (point for me).

This puts the likelihood of a third party candidate at essentially nil (no points awarded).

They could just call for a restart, the Justices would approve that.

Nope..

The parties have rules about picking the candidate - and the States have rules for Electoral College and elections themselves.

I do not know of any state that can make a change in selection of candidate at the last minute (weeks or so) - nor any state that allows last minute changes on the ballot......

It's "run whatcha brung"......
