It only tooks some time to for me to pick up on what it was saying.

I now realize that buffalo Bill was not calling the woman "it" to dehumanize her. He was merely speaking to her respectfully, because all humans are an "it".

Yeah.

All humans are an "it." And all "its" are made from "bits."
Hence the phrase "It from bit."

John Archibald Wheeler Wrote:It from bit. Otherwise put, every 'it'—every particle, every field of force, even the space-time continuum itself—derives its function, its meaning, its very existence entirely—even if in some contexts indirectly—from the apparatus-elicited answers to yes-or-no questions, binary choices, bits. 'It from bit' symbolizes the idea that every item of the physical world has at bottom—a very deep bottom, in most instances—an immaterial source and explanation; that which we call reality arises in the last analysis from the posing of yes–no questions and the registering of equipment-evoked responses; in short, that all things physical are information-theoretic in origin and that this is a participatory universe.

For believers you add a soul. Hence the phrase "it and a bit"

Interesting. Big Grin

And maybe sins are something like bugs or viruses in our souls that can be deleted.
I don't want those bits to invade me because they may corrupt my files.

Or maybe sins are something that certain humans invented... as in conceptual stuff.

Sort of like Karma.

Oh wait, Karma isnt made up either.

umm...sort of like thetans.

Oh wait, L.Ron Hubbard didnt make up Thetans. they actually exist.

Damn, I cant come up with a comparison for such concepts that show the difference from being made up and actually existing.

Just to be clear, I wasn't so much "defending" Epi as trying to understand the objection. I get it now, but I tend to not think of it as a big deal. Smile Thanks for humoring me, Rev.

No problem. I was hoping you would not get mad at me for doing such a thing.

I couldnt think of any other way to make you understand how calling people "it" made me feel.

Well, I can't say it hurt my feelings. However, I can see why people do not want to be equated with other animals. It is human nature to think more of oneself than other creatures. It's understandable. I still understand Epi's use of it.

It depends on your perspective.

I won't make it my sig line, but I loved this gem by Moros from a while back:

"Life does not have endemic rights. Life is merely a collection of processes encased in some container."
