Cardinal George Pell has conviction overturned

Cardinal George Pell has conviction overturned
Cardinal George Pell was convicted for sexually assaulting a minor

Now the high court of Australia reviewed the matter and made an unprecedented decision to overturn the conviction and release the Cardinal from prison

The Cardinal was the third most senior authority of the Roman Catholic Church and spent 405 days in prison before being acquitted

Are you celebrating?
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

And why not, the useless old bastard was taking up prison space that a young guy could occupy.
Miserable Bastard.

Because molesting children and protecting those who molest children isn't a crime, apparently.

Anyone care to place bets on him doing it again?

According to the high court there is no again as he was unanimously found not guilty of the charge. So u loose that bet... Cough up... LoL

My money is on civil lawsuits to be filed now
And given that the standard of evidence in civil cases is based on the "balance of probability" there's a good chance he'll loose at least one

I think he's innocent but there was a huge pedophile scandal that took place here, right under his nose while he was the head bishop. A fair few priests got done and everyone thinks he covered it all up. He claims that he knew nothing about it and he was never charged for it. If there was any truth u can bet these cops would have charged him.

Now there is a some disgust at what they perceive to be an injustice. So civil lawsuits are inevitable now

By 'doing it again', I meant sexually assaulting a minor. This has nothing to do with his prior conviction being overturned.

He was not found innocent, the verdict was that there was could bne 'reasonable doubt' whether the appeal court judges had given due weight to a number of character witnesses which the cardinal produced at appeal.
The complainants evidence was considered 'thoroughly credible and reliable'.

In the rule of law, for most of civilized countries, there is only "Guilty or Not Guilty". Not guilty doesn't necessarily mean innocent, just there wasn't sufficient evidence to claim guilt.
