Ban Religion - are you for or against it and why?

Completely against it. Banning religion is a ridiculous notion held by those who hate letting individuals choose for themselves.

As much as I dislike religion, I think I'd also have to be against banning it outright. There's obviously a huge demand for religious services and the apparent benefits it offers, and history shows that if we ban something desirable, people will always find ways to satisfy their need for it.

Ideally, I hope our societies would start to evolve away from religion, gradually replacing it with something more beneficial for the world.

I do agree with this, however. If there was a way to protect future generations from the intellectual slavery and enforced close-mindedness of religious indoctrination, I would. I find it despicable when dogma is forced down the throats of young children who have no choice in the matter.

At first i was going to put support just to spite religion, but then i was going to put oppose it because supporting is ass thing to do but then i saw the OP comment, i support banning bad and abusive religions, like Scientology(the church, not the belief), there's a reason why dangerous cults are banned, and why scientology is banned in France, it's just not smart to let dangerous cults to lay around and leave their spawn rotting society from the inside out.

Other religions still have an abusive and negative impact in a lot of ways. Maybe the damage they do is more insidious, or not acknowledged because it's such a familiar aspect of one's culture.

I bet you'd have a lot of angry Scientologists with a ton of money trying to sue you if you ever tried to ban their religion Tongue

I ban the church of scientology which has proven various times to cause psychological damage(not pretty that one), Fraud, espionage, and promotes hate campaigns for critics(including sponsoring murder and rape)

There seems to me little point in banning particular religions, because if they break the law they will be punished anyway. If they don't break the law, but just do morally dubious things, either we make those morally dubious things illegal, or we accept them as the necessary result of a free society. Banning the religion as a whole is just illiberal.
'We must respect the other fellow's religion, but only in the sense and to the extent that we respect his theory that his wife is beautiful and his children smart.' H.L. Mencken

'False religion' is the ultimate tautology.

'It is just like man's vanity and impertinence to call an animal dumb because it is dumb to his dull perceptions.' Mark Twain

'I care not much for a man's religion whose dog and cat are not the better for it.' Abraham Lincoln
