I think one of them is hooked into SETI. If that fucker goes off I'll be sleeping on Brian's couch.

I've always thought SETI was a bad idea - we shouldn't be announcing ourselves.

Oh, I know some people want to chat with the aliens and enter the Galactic Federation in a spirit of peaceful cooperation, but trust me - when the slime creatures from Aldebaran IV start oozing their way under our front doors, those same people will be whapping at them with golf clubs and kitchen utensils just like the rest of us.

I have a 99 Saturn SC2 I  bought with a bad rod knock but the body was in great shape. I bought a 98 SC2 with a good engine but the body was rusted out. I swapped engines. It ran good but had a bit of a missing hesitation - but only between 40 and 55 mph in top gear. All other speeds it had good acceleration. Live data feed showed drastic ignition retardation during the problem. No check engine light showed.

A faulty knock sensor seemed most likely. I put it on the hoist and swapped the sensor.

No change.

Next I tried the crank angle sensor. Same result.

Over the next few months I changed -
Throttle body
TPS
Air bleed
MAP
ECTS
EGR
CPS
Ignition coils and ICM
IAT
and even the PCM - the car's brain.

The problem persisted.

I decide to start at square one - and do a compression check - despite the fact that it uses no oil and runs well under most conditions.

I pulled the #1 spark plug - and find that the top portion of the plug - the ceramic insulator - is broken clean in half....

The first, easiest thing - I didn't check... I guess I thought I did.

In my old student house the previous owners had put the smoke detector on the ceiling of a high ceilinged, open beam (if you know what I mean) room.

It started chirping one weekend and I didn't have a ladder in the hoyse to reach it.  It was starting to get on my nerves while I was studying.

I solved the problem with a broom handle and replaced the smoke detector a couple of days later.

I'm gonna burn for this.   You flew up there and knocked it off, right!? #GrannyWeatherwaxFliesAgain

@Brain- can you rent a mom or cleaning person to pick up after you? Might be less than the A/C repairman bill.

This is the worst part of being single. You don't have anyone to answer to.

The insanity of all that was the echo! It sounded like it was coming from everywhere.  It lead me to conclude that my unit was fucked up. I literally was seconds away from calling a heating/air conditioner pro.
