thought is of no value unless it is sound.   science can not exist without some sound thoughts.   religion can not exist with many sound thoughts.

Theory means the best explanation we have right now based on the observable facts. Theories are explanations of how things operate. They should have predictive and explanatory power whereas facts are data points that can become theories. So, theories encompass many facts.
