God Exists

RE: God Exists
brokenreflector Wrote:Why would the question be asked if God is by definition a being that cannot fail to exist (i.e. necessary, eternal)?

That is an empty assertion.
There isn't any evidence that God exists in the first place, so there isn't any evidence that God is eternal.

brokenreflector Wrote:I don't see how this is worth mentioning.

Ask yourself this because you mentioned something you call "flavors" of atheism.

brokenreflector Wrote:Because he's doing science and science is a methodology that observes, records, predicts, and describes natural phenomena. God isn't a natural phenomena. Even if God truly existed and even if this scientist believed in God, it wouldn't make sense for him to mention God in a purely scientific context.

Exactly, if something is invisible, inaudible, is in no way detectable then it doesn't exist - just like God. The only dimension God exists is in people's imagination.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Yes, there's only two options just like X can only exist or not exist. Will you now argue with me that there's a third option for the ontology of X?

1) That doesn't surprise me. On the other hand, I've reasoned that unicorns do not exist and that rainbows do.

Quote:It's great that you 'Believe' that 'Nothing' can not produce 'Something'.

2) I'm 99% sure that you believe that it's impossible for not anything to produce something as well, but you wouldn't admit it.

Quote:So.. realty doesn't actually care what people think.

3) Interestingly, "reality" is a complete list of all that exists which would exclude "not anything."

Quote:Astronomers, Cosmologists, Physicists etc are not actually positing 'Nothing' as a 'before' everything.

4) Actually, Dr. Krauss frequently claims the universe came from nothing, but that's because he's dishonest. When pressed on this issue he describes "nothing" as a quantum field. But a quantum field is something.

Quote:Nope. You are positing that there are only 'Two' options. I am disagreeig with your limitiations.

5) Yes, there's only two options just like X can only exist or not exist. Will you now argue with me that there's a third option for the ontology of X?

1) So.. why do you beleive your version of fantasy exists... and other people's fantasies don't exist? Where does your diety end and other people's deitys begin?

2) You can read minds now? That's interesting.

3) You asserting that there is 'Nothing' in (Or outside of, or besides of) reality does not actually make it so.

4) So... Dr Krauss is dishonest? Really? Can we see you PHD to back up your claim? I'm not saying that the 'Quantum foam' does not exist. I am saying that particles come into being weere, before, there were/was no particle.

5) Again, you asserting that there can be 'Only two' does not make it so.

Cheers.

What's wrong with William Lane Craig? And why hasn't anyone in this thread been able to cogently defend atheism?

What is there to defend?

Atheists don't believe in a god or gods.

Pretty elementary stuff there.  And why would we feel the need to defend anything to you?
