We can assume that the point of life is to be miserable, and it suggests an easy answer as to why god doesn't heal amputees. He wants them to be miserable.
If God exists and He created beings like us in a world like this--and His purpose for us and this world was to maximize human happiness--then He probably would heal amputees. He'd probably give everyone a golden car and a mansion, too.

Maybe. I don't know that golden cars and mansions are everyone's thing, but it stands to reason that most of us would rather be whole than missing a limb or eye or whatnot.
Whatever gods purpose is, he either can or can't heal amuputees... either will, or won't.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

So you agree with me that if God's purpose for human beings in this life were to make them as happy as possible, then He would at least heal all amputees?

Sure, that's one thing that it could do, if that's something that it could do.

So why do you think happiness is God's purpose for us in this life?

I don't. Swing and a miss.

Then you must think this thread is as pointless as I do.

Na. I think that a proposed gods inability or unwillingness to heal amputees gives insight into a gods character, regardless of what a gods purpose for this world might be. Same as it would with any other agent, like us.
A shit god who couldn't, is shit.
A shit god who wont, is shit.
The faithful would have a better time of it if they came up with better gods, imo. You don't call a plumber who can't or flat out wont fix a broken pipe, right?

I agree.
So maybe you should rethink what the purpose of life is.

Why? I'm not interested in a gods purpose.
People have purpose too, that doesn't make them any more or less shit. The plumber who can't or won't fix a pipe might take it as his purpose in life to fuck with you - but it isn't on account of his purpose that he's a shit plumber. It's on account of the fact that he either can't or wont fix a broken pipe. The same would be true of a god.
