Damn, this sucks! They just wont let go.

What is wrong with people? This should be a no brainer! And they wonder why statues get torn down anyway.

What is that judge thinking?

Just remove the damn thing and put it in a basement archive or museum of what not to do to your fellow human being.

You think that the state can nulify legal contracts that it entered into anytime there is popular support to do so?

Think that is a good precidence?

I would point out that Lincoln didn't issue the Emancipation Proclamation until the Union had won a decisive victory. This was to avoid looking like an idiot to the rest of the world.

Lincoln never sent freed slaves to Liberia or Central/South America.

So much for your claims of ‘researching everything’.

Sorry, Brian, but I gotta go with OLB on this one. No matter how repugnant you find the Confederate monuments (and I agree with your sentiment), there’s a little thing called ‘due process’. And it matters. A lot.

Conservatives: Giving Participation trophies to kids for LOSING is making them WEAK.

Also, Conservatives: Even though the Confederacy LOST the War, they DESERVE monuments for their PARTICIPATION in battle.

There is no doubt that such statues are politically motivated by repugnant racists - but a contract is a contract.....

That said - the signatories are all dead - so it would seem there is some legal recourse to first nulify the contract.... That shouldn't take more than a week or so....

Smart judge - if you ask me... Do it legal - then you can avoid a lawsuit later...

No, he didn’t try to ‘send’ them anywhere. That word implies force. Lincoln supported voluntary colonization for freed slaves, and also supported their right to remain in the US if they so desired. From your link:

Quote:. In his annual December message to Congress that year (his second "State of the Union" Message), he reiterated his strong support for government expenditure on colonization for those who wanted to go, but he also noted that objections to free blacks remaining in the United States were baseless, "if not sometimes malicious."
