Let us know how that goes.

As for helmets - good luck with that too.  Riders who don't wear helmets see being forced to as a violation of their rights.

I told my husband when he had a Harley that I was glad he drove like a bat out of hell.  He asked why...I told him that since he wouldn't wear a helmet if he wrecked going 140 mph it would kill him and I wouldn't have to deal with him drooling on himself for years.

It isn't about "fussing". It is about safety.

I am so sick of "safety" as being viewed as wrong. If safety were always bad, we wouldn't have food inspectors in the restaurants we eat at. Not sure about anyone else reading this, but I am damned sure glad it is required that employees wash their hands before returning to work.
I am just telling you that you are going to get your ass kicked if you decide to go up against a bunch of bikers.

I am not arguing the safety of street racing.

Who claimed I was going to confront them in person? I am not that stupid, and I only weigh an ounce. But if they had dragged like I think they were sniffing a place, the street out and witnessed it, I would have called police without leaving the inside of my house. They seemed to be sniffing this street out, but they were all chicken, and gave up when the kids drove by on bicycles and I think the one guy's wife kept on coming out and bugging them about safety too.

I think they wanted a party on their bikes, but chickened out because we live in a very safe and quiet neighborhood. It just seemed like something stupid I might have done as a teen except these morons were in their 30s and 40s.

Yes, your Bugs Bunny impression should certainly do the trick.

But seriously, I agree that street racing is dangerous (I definitely wouldn’t want it in my own neighbourhood), but do you gave any actually ideas about how to approach the problem?

NM, you answered while I was typing the above. Thank you.

It was very unusual behavior for my neighborhood. Like I said, I am used to one loud motorcycle at a time, and that is normal for a middle class neighborhood where I live. And I have lived her for over a decade, and while I had loud neighbors kicked out of a rental over a decade ago,(not by me, but the renters a street over). And one call to the police for a nut who walked through my yard with a riffel up his sleeve, who was never caught, it has really been a very quiet neighborhood.  The noise tonight was quite unusual. Even for the house where all the bikers were hanging out.

I am hoping their paranoia in trying to case the joint (my street) and the activity of the wife constantly coming out to them made them ultimately think twice. But while I will not confront them in person, if I actually see them drag, beyond the bullshit bravado I saw today I will call the police.

Pssh. When I commuted to work, 75 MPH in the High Occupancy Vehicle lane was an invitation for getting "help" from behind. Speeding is a victimless crime, right up until the shit hits the fan. I was lucky in '75, driving across the Nevada desert in a built Pontiac Le Mans with serious horse power under the hood, doing 143 MPH (national speed limit=55 MPH at that time) and passing everyone in sight. Yeah, it blowed up real good! Not built quite well enough (not by me, either).  Dodgy  Fortunately nothing except my pride was injured. I ended up building it myself later with better results.

Wearing a helmet whilst riding a motorcycle is akin to wiping down your arm with alcohol before self injecting unknown street drugs.

You are attempting to mitigate the danger of an inherently unsafe act.

If you're gonna go with stupid you might as well say damn the torpedos and go whole hog.

I have NEVER in my life endorsed or encouraged anyone to ride a motorcycle. Sure - I had fun doing it. I managed to put on a shitload of miles in 35+ years of riding with 3 major accidents leaving me only crippled and not dead or paralyzed..

Just remember you are 26 times more likely to be splattered on a bike than in a car.

If you want thrills- take up flying.

It's waaaaay safer.

I've had one serious accident while riding and that was because a ute ran a red light. I find riding to be safe so long as you're careful and remember that you have to watch out for the other idiots on the road, because many of them won't watch out for you.

I think mandatory riding classes for car drivers would make things safer on the road.

If you think riding is safe - you might want to look at the crash test ratings for your bike........

It's not real encouraging...

Doctor: Yep, we're waiting for donors now, but the good is it's raining.

Bikers will "get it".

You might want to read the rest of that sentence. I did add qualifiers.

And of course bikes suffer more in accidents.

And riding IS pretty safe. It's the crashing that's a problem.
