While a warlike nature can be embedded in a culture (and can be partly a male problem), a country that doesn't plan for the possibility of war is going to stop being a country.  If women ran everything they better get used to the idea of war very quickly.

It is a problem of game theory.  Even in a perfectly harmonious culture, there has to be some force that counteracts the rogue actor, or the rogue wins.  Cultural stigma, religion and myths can keep some people in line, but in the end, you need police within a society, and armies between societies.

Seriously? It's just a show. Yeah there are movies and tv shows that have had a deep emotional impact on me, but this just seems like overreacting. But then again that's twitter for you.

Here's another reason not to allow Catholic organizations to work with kids

Quote:Supreme Court sides with Catholic adoption agency that refuses to work with LGBT couples

The Supreme Court on Thursday delivered a unanimous defeat to LGBT couples in a high-profile case over whether Philadelphia could refuse to contract with a Roman Catholic adoption agency that says its religious beliefs prevent it from working with same-sex foster parents.

Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in an opinion for a majority of the court that Philadelphia violated the First Amendment by refusing to contract with Catholic Social Services once it learned that the organization would not certify same-sex couples for adoption.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Okay, I might be persuaded that it would be unconstitutional to force a Catholic organization to certify same-sex couples for adoption.

I absolutely cannot agree that the state MUST contract them to do that discrimination.  That ruling is right-wing crazy.

Hungary passes law banning LGBT content in schools
theguardian.com
Quote:Hungary’s parliament has passed a law banning gay people from featuring in school educational materials or TV shows for under-18s, as Viktor Orbán’s ruling party intensified its campaign against LGBT rights.

The national assembly passed the legislation by 157 votes to one, after MPs in the ruling Fidesz party ignored a last-minute plea by one of Europe’s leading human rights officials to abandon the plan as “an affront against the rights and identities of LGBTI persons”.

Despite a boycott of the vote by some opposition politicians, the outcome was never in doubt, as Fidesz has a healthy majority and the plans were supported by the far-right Jobbik party.
