Conservative Lawmakers Lose It Over Jesus Having Two Moms in Church's Nativity Scene
An Italian Catholic church is being put on blast for displaying a nativity scene with two moms and baby Jesus instead of the traditional Mary with Joseph figures with a baby Jesus figurine.
However, the priest at the Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Capocastello di Mercogliano who decided to give Jesus queer parents isn’t backing down. In fact, he’s defending the display.
"I wanted to show with this scene that families are no longer just the traditional ones," Father Vitaliano Della Sala told Reuters. "In our parishes, we see more and more children from the new types of families that exist and are part of our society, children of separated and divorced people, gay couples, single people, young mothers."
Italy legalized same-sex civil unions in 2016, but doesn’t allow same-sex marriage, “stepchildren adoption” or surrogacy, stances that rights groups attribute to opposition from the Catholic Church. The government under far-right Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has even demanded that officials only register one biological parent on their birth certificate when same-sex couples have had children via surrogacy while abroad. Lesbian mothers have even been taken off the birth certificates of their children.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Russian Parents Are Kidnapping Their LGBTQ+ Children and Sending Them to Conversion Therapy Camps
Parents in Russia are hiring gangs of men to abduct their LGBTQ+ children and take them to conversion therapy centers, where they are held for extended periods and subjected to chemical and psychological practices banned in Western countries, according to a report from The Washington Post.
Survivors who escaped to the West said they were imprisoned inside expensive and isolated treatment centers, often amidst drug addicts and the mentally ill. They spoke of being given debilitating drugs, forced to perform hours of exercise and labor, beaten down emotionally and psychologically regarding their sexual and gender identity, and enduring regular beatings by staff.
Transgender nonbinary activist and journalist Ada Blakewell, 23, said her mother aided in her abduction to the Freedom Rehabilitation Center in Siberia. Blakewell, who uses she/they pronouns, said she was forced to swim every morning in an ice-cold river and endure a brutal physical regimen that left her vision blurred and seeing only white. Blakewell said she was also forced to perform “manly” tasks such as chopping wood and slaughtering chicken, pigs, and turkeys, as well as once being asked to castrate a pig.

Frankly, shit like this isn’t the least bit surprising. Even in America, parents can have their children kidnapped and sent to camps that exist to perform what amounts to glorified child abuse. And even here, it’s perfectly legal. It took until 2021 for any state of the Union to regulate it. And even then, it seems like the regulations mostly come down to making it look a bit less like a kidnapping.
Knowing what I know about the Troubled Teen Industry, it wouldn’t surprise me the least bit if scenarios exactly like the ones you described in Russia are playing out in the 28 states that haven’t banned conversion therapy for minors.

Kentucky homophobe Kim Davis, who denied gay couples marriage licenses, must pay over $360,000
Former Kentucky clerk Kim Davis refused to issue marriage licenses to LGBTQ+ couples in 2015. Nearly a decade later, she's facing $360,000 in damages and attorney fees.
Davis was ordered in September to pay $100,000 in damages to one of the couples she denied a license. She was ordered on Tuesday to pay an additional $260,104 to David Ermold and David Moore to cover their attorney fees.
Davis refused to issue marriage licenses to gay couples following the Obergefell v. Hodges U.S. Supreme Court decision in 2015 which recognized marriage equality, claiming it would violate her religious beliefs. She then shut down all marriage license operations in her office to avoid serving same-sex couples, before she was briefly detained for her illegal actions.
