Why would I care or why would people on this forum care, since we are atheists? What do I care if people pray to Santa or Easter Bunny? Or if they pray to a guy who walked on water or the guy who rode on a flying donkey?

Besides, this just proves to all those liberal Muslims and liberal Christians who claim how Islam and Christianity are so alike, that they are not, and are in fact very divisive. No Muslim who find himself abroad will go to catholic church to satisfy his weekly rites in his relationship with imaginary friend popularly called Allah, just as no catholic will go to a mosque, nor will that catholic go to an orthodox or Mormon church.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

why, in your opinion ?

Because he has reversed a century of history and progress by by turning Turkey from a secular nation to an Islamist state.

Because he has faked a "coup", detaining thousands and killing no-one knows how many to retain power.

He's a wannabe dictator in the same vein as others in the ME and elsewhere that you, in the past, have reviled.

And what I said Erdogan needs, I firmly believe that many such dictator wannabes in the east and west need.

I wouldn't call the period of Turkey's militarizing a "progress", it was in that period when Turkey lost most of its land and most of its pride. He didn't fake the coup; rather his people protected him because some military generals were the head behind the coup; and Turkish people did not want to live the tragedy of WW1's period,

I'm still against the dictators of the ME to the core; I still want to see every one of them pay and get trialed and get the guillotine , Erdogan is having a war right now against Assad and against Haftar and against SISI. So he doesn't look as bad as you picture him to be.

So if a few military officers and troops were plotting a coup, why did tens of thousands of civil servants, teachers, and members of opposition parties also get detained, lose their jobs, and end up with many restrictions placed on them?

In addition to everything else he has done, he is making war on the Kurds, the most effective fighters against ISIS. They were also betrayed by Trump.

He is making war on the PKK (not the Kurds); the PKK is a terrorist organization by Turkey, the European Union, the U.S too:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurdistan_Workers'_Party

Quote:The Kurdistan Workers' Party is designated as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States, the European Union, Australia and Japan. The PKK was founded in November 1978 in the village of Fis (near Lice), by a group of Kurdish students led by Abdullah Öcalan.

Erdogan is fighting this terrorist organization, not the Kurds. They are just like ISIS.
He also fought ISIS:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkey%E2%...L_conflict

Quote:In the meantime the Turkish authorities have arrested around 1,200 people inside Turkey through the past year for suspected links with ISIL.[33] This means that Turkey is at active war with ISIL.[32]

As for the supporters of the military coup; it is very expected for them to lose their social prestige and jobs as a conclusion.

Once again, you go to astonishing lengths to excuse the thuggery is Islamic leaders, all of your defenses of them boiling down to what the West has done.

It’s become sad.

So? Barbarity on the part of other people doesn’t excuse barbarity on the part of yours.

Boru

Mosques, churches, synagogues, or temples to any superstition turned into museum is civilization.  Turning anything into a one of those is barbarism.

Edogan is trying to turn turkey back what would have be a relatively barbaric part of the 7th century.

You're blind to what the imperialistic actions of Kafir -infidel/non-Muslim- powers are, so I can't help a biased personality like yours to understand.
