In personality tests given as part of psychological studies, fundamentalist Christians show much less "openness to experience" than liberal Christians.
Fundamentalists, however, scored significantly lower than liberals on openness to experience, r(109) = 9.58, P < 0.001, effect size: Y = 0.68. Moreover, additional f-tests indicated that fundamentalists scored significantly lower than liberals on each of the 12 items that constitute the openness to experience dimension, P < 0.001. Thus, the relative avoidance of diverse experiences and ideas in the fundamentalist group is not confined to ideological. moral, or religious issues; it also extends to dislike of foreign foods, poetry and so forth.
