Unlike when she willingly chose to give away her billions, I doubt this act of handing over the award was her choice.

Agreed. I suspect it was a you-can’t-fire-me-I-quit situation. She returned the award because they were going to rescind it anyway.

To save everyone some time, I have neither proof nor supportive evidence that this is the case.
