J.K. Rowling had to return civil rights award

RE: J.K. Rowling had to return civil rights award
I kind of think the LGBTQ community may be over-reacting to what she’s said on the topic. She doesn’t seem to be transphobic, but I think she may have a bit of a tin ear when it comes to this subject.

I once remarked that I wished black people had better jobs. I was excoriated for it, when what I meant was that black people should have the opportunity FOR better jobs.

I think the situation with Rowling may be similar.

You're tap-dancing in a minefield when you talk to some folks no matter how carefully you speak. I ceased to bother worrying about that long ago.

It's like pointing out to BLM supporters that Tony Timpa died in almost identical way to George Floyd yet not one protest over that, they be like "racist racist racist!"

Quote:The author said: ‘”People who menstruate”. I’m sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?’ After this tweet got many replies pointing out that it’s not only cis-gendered women who have periods, she added:

Based on this I see little basis for the outrage, but then I'm cis and old. If the trans want to be outraged it's no skin off my back. Just don't expect me to play.
I don't have an anger problem, I have an idiot problem.

JK Rowling’s comment Carries the unmistakable insinuation that trans gender people are morally twisted creeps who hacked off their own genitals so they can go into ladies room and molest girls.

Quote:Or she just doesn't agree with your views.
Or she is transphobic bigot and disagreement has nothing to do with it . Or of course i disagree with a transphobic bigot

Quote:Amazing that such "inclusive people" are so offended by someone with a differing opinion.

I doubt very much this will hurt her career in the least.
Bigotry has no place in inclusion such a thing is self defeating

Quote:She is worth somewhere around 1 billion dollars.

You think she gives a shit what we think of her?
And yet she whines endlessly about how persecuted she is for people chewing here out for her bullshit

If the first two comments are suppose to make her look good they fail miserably and the last one sounds like something some says when they know they fucked up and need to cover their ass .

I think the worst think she’s actually guilty of is not understanding the difference between ‘sex’ and ‘gender’.

At first, her statements, taken individually, could be easily taken as absent minded mistakes by someone who's never really had to consider trans people and who has little experience with twitter. And I could have forgiven them. But once is a mistake. Multiple times isn't a mistake, it's a pattern.

But ever since this year, it's like she's given up on trying to hide it and she's just going full on TERF.

I'll be the first to admit, a lot of trans people can be a little over zealous when complaining about TERF's. Hell, I've had someone call me a TERF, which I find hilarious. But there are legitimately trans-hating feminists out there and they can be scary. I mean, usually they leave trans people alone as long as the trans people leave them alone, but there are the extremes in their camps. They've been known to do things like publicly out trans people, not just to friends and family (who might not be accepting) but to out them to schools, landlords and employers; for people like me, who live in states with little to no legal trans protections, this can be VERY dangerous. They've sometimes aligned themselves with religious conservatives for the purpose of fighting against trans rights or trans protections; this is despite the fact that they have to be willing to stomach some pretty extreme fundamentalist misogyny.
