There is no justice...... RBG RIP!

Rushing into confirming a new justice is going to alienate some people who were maybe on the fence considering Mitch the Turtle's refusal to fill Scalia's seat in 2016.

But jumping into filling the seat with a Trumpian might just have the Dems adding to the number of justice seats should the Dems take over the house/senate/and presidency thereby being able to load up on their choices.

Either way Mitch the Bitch needs to get gone.  I dislike him as much as I dislike Trump.

I do find it interesting that Trump immediately ordered flags lowered and has mostly been respectful.  He knows the handling of the death of RGB has the potential to be a minefield or an opportunity to do something decent for a change thereby swaying the undecided and those with short memories over to his side.

I can bet that those in the WH for once, put their foot down, and told him attacking her like McCain would be suicide. But outside RBG, look at how many times he has attacked anyone who said boo to him, even in his own ranks, only to fake empathy for a brief moment.

I am not impressed for one second that he said a kind word about her. His actions for years the way he talks about women has been vile, much less any other group apposing him.

He's going to go right back to attacking women who question him. RBG had a duty not to comment, because of her position, but I am damned sure if she had not ben a SCOTUS, she would have at a minimum been a lawyer for women's rights groups.

Vote to win and get Trump out of office. This will be your last chance to do so for a considerably long time.

This is regardless if you consider yourself an Libertarian or Republican. If Trump wins the election again, it will a transparently fascist dictatorship by 2022.

This is what scares me the most. The blind loyalty we are seeing from his base,  and even in congress, it the same sick shit that lead to Hitler, Stalin, Un, and Castro.

It isn't enough for people like Mitt or Collins or the Bushes to throw micro second bones of agreement in the moment.

He is right.

Liberals for the past 40 years have depended too much on fair play, and it is a nice notion, and morally empathetic. How can one beat a party that fights dirty ?

Brian would sooner become a rational, even tempered, well informed, level headed person not prone to ranting than suffer through the mental gymnastics required to get Kim Jong Un’s name make right enough to not insult the Korean culture.

For better or worse, the right has sold their principles in exchange for power. The left hasn't, and doesn't need to do so. That difference, though, will serve as a check against holding Republicans accountable and playing politics in the same way. That likely means another Trump SCOTUS justice, and no real retaliation. I think that, followed by flipping the senate, is the best that can be hoped for. If we sell out our principles, we'll have lost something irreplaceable. Power is no substitute for principles. Republicans have made that bargain because they really have no other choice.

I think the left most certainly has also sold out a good deal of its principles, or at least what it said were its principles in order to gain the following of certain segments.  what it has not sold out is a lackadaisical approach to the serious and increasingly winner take all form of mortal political combat.   the reason it has not sold this out is not principle, or strategy, but lassitude, and self-delusion about the caliber of the american electoral and unthinking faith in some mythical recouperative power of the american institution.

principle in front of power, but without power,  is fantasy.

even in cases where it appears principle triumphed over power,  look more closely.   The power that was defeated was first defeated by some other power, it was that circumstance which  allowed principle to appear to defeated it.

principle never defeated a power that wasn’t already defeated.

*sigh*

Principled consistent behavior, for all its worth, is so easily dismantled by chaotic, opportunistic power. In a similar regard it's easier to destroy, than to build something fragile. I don't think there exists any government today that isn't just a house of cards.

I couldn't agree with you more. Un/Kim, you knew what I meant.

Trump was literally raised by a bully authoritarian and that is why he is who he is now.

In Trump's family it would be Don. Yes his family name is Trump, just like Un's family is Kim. But Don is the one in power now.

The point is Donald is an authoritarian wannabe.

If you knew his last name, why didn’t you list them as, ‘Adolf, Joseph, Jong-un, and Fidel’?

And Trump is not an ‘authoritarian wannabe’. He’s an authoritarian, full stop. It’s an attitude, not a job title.
