Wrong thread, this is the one about computers being flung over castle walls with trebuchet.

When I’m in the market for a computer, I like to do a lot of research beforehand - I decide how many RAMS and REMS I need, compare and contrast mommyboards and PCUs, make sure I get the right number of bits, bites, chomps and hurtses, that sort of thing.

Then I write all of these specs down on a sheet of paper and stroll over to Big Dave’s House O’Data. Then I wad the paper up into a ball and fling it in a random direction. Whatever computer it lands closest to, I tell the clerk, ‘I’ll take that one.’

I’ve always had good results, except the one time they refused to sell me the cash register.

Once upon a time I had my very own computer guru - my son.

About four years ago his response to my questions was always, "Google it."

Now I just skip the middle man and go straight to Google.

When working in various offices I was often the contact when outside IT techs were called in. I have been known to have a question or two for them that had nothing to do with any equipment or software issues at work.

The kid across the road is going to university next year. I dunno WHAT the hell we’re going to do for tech support then.

No, but we have an antique cash till without any buttons at all. My wife may have an antique mechanical cash register at her shop, but I’m not going to wake her up to ask.
