They want that shit to become the law of the land. Your teeth would be skinned.

Anxiety, insomnia and depression are understandable, and can be treated. Dementia is far more scary. My father departed with that. It is not a pleasant departure for anyone.

Brewer, just to pile on what GS says; their mental crutch informs their decision making process so, in the long run it, can change national policy which will totally affect you.

The human animal isn't geared so much to find facts as they are to find fuck buddies. The interesting question is why religion has served as such successful grease in that endeavor.

@ignoramus I don't think I'm putting the person down, I just don't get how faith would help her at all. @Lawz This is a great point, she's putting everything she has on her faith. @brewer I wish people of faith, could see, using faith as a mental crutch, is what they shouldn't do. @Gwaithmir I watched a video one time, of one of the oldest men to ever live, and one of his life longevity things, was 'because the good Lord as kept me here this long' No, it's your amazing health, it's nothing to do with religion.

So WHAT if it's a mental crutch? Faith works, in a very real way. It doesn't mean that God is listening to you or that God is answering prayers or that God even exists. It means that you have a (for you) positive mental attitude, and it's pretty much beyond debate that such an attitude is helpful during times of crisis, such as losing loved ones.

It's a superstition, sure, but again - so what? If you think wearing your lucky hat helps you win at poker, it doesn't matter that the hat has no magic powers. If you have the hat, you're going to bet more carefully, fold when you should, etc.

As long as it isn't taken to extremes, faith is largely harmless and even somewhat helpful.

Faith is what keeps my younger cousins from getting an education, from thinking about what they're told, from thinking about the orders they're given. Faith is a poor substitute for being rational.

Agreed. But again - so what? I don’t think civilization is going to crumble around us because a woman said, ‘My faith got me through this terrible tragedy.’

My young cousins are being wasted on that shit, that's what. The ones that get out do well for the most part, if they haven't been so damaged they'll never think straight. But I've been seen youngsters who were too whacked out for the Marines. There's a reverse evolution going on where the most hysterical of religious views are held. It's an abscess on my country, and I worry.

Just wanted to share my view on a local new story done in my region. A woman, lost her mother and brother in law to COVID. She stated at the end of the story the only way she has stayed positive is through her faith. It's sad that people have to deal with loss to this stuff, but to say your last strain of hope is because of faith, I think is strange. During these times, I'm still the most puzzled about ho people of faith, can even bother with faith. To me, to you guys I think you would agree, I'm surprised the COVID thing, isn't the waking up point for people of faith, to like, you know what all religion is horrible and if God did exist, he sure wouldn't care about people. Why, do you think people turn to faith as their last hope in life?

For myself, what makes the Atheist community and especially this forum, is how great it is to always come here and share with all of you and be around other Atheists. Hope, everyone is doing well and safe.
Ultimately God decides who lives and who dies. We can tell this because healthy people are dying but no so healthy people are alive. It all depends on chance in the natural. Loving God and believing in him helps but it doesnt bring certainty. You can make all the right moves and still die. At least God can give a larger success rate.
