Are religions that preach inequality for women and gays, traitors to their country?
RE: Are religions that preach inequality for women and gays, traitors to their country?
Insomuch as the religious have become an impotent bunch of crybabies - there are other causes and things more important than-that which may be damaged by the political cost of taking a hard(er) stand against whatever abuse that theism is still capable of afflicting which we haven't yet legislated out of existence.

I dream of a world with endless religions - none of them theistic - but I'd settle first for a living wage. Priorities.

In the old days, I do not see atheists taking kindly to the religionists hand in his pocket.

Strange that new atheists are not inclined to end that injustice much.

Atheists - by and large - are very MUCH inclined  to end state support for religion, it’s a question of ginning up enough political support to make it happen.

Boru

Atheists have the high moral ground in this, and if you are right, I wonder why I hear so little on this in the media.

Atheists are a political force, thank the atheist god, otherwise we would still be stoning fornicators.

You hear so little about it in the media because atheists, in a very real and pragmatic sense, do NOT have the high moral ground. The high moral ground is whatever the moralists - in this case, religionists - say it is.

Humanists are a political force (albeit not a particularly potent one), atheists not so much.

An impotent bunch of crybabies who are preventing the basic living wage you want by their misogynistic teachings.

If your wife or daughter is the average, she will give up half a million in total life income due to what some think is an impotent force.

That impotent force has it's hand in your pocket as we speak.

At work.

Ah. I love the miss -characterization of taxation.

Don't worry about the rich and, by extension, big corporations literally hoarding wealth unto themselves.

"But they earned it fair and square" Is inevitably wailed in response. Ignoring the market manipulation and other active methods used with which they clutch at said gains.

Meanwhile the things a society relies on degrade and fall apart due to a strangling of the capital needed to maintain it.

The studies are in. The case is debunked. 'Trickle down economics' realy is the rich person p!ssing down on the little person's back and reassuring them 'Don't worry, it's just raining'.

Not at all.  Their churches aren't empowered to set federal minimum wage in the us.  That's all on secular government - credit where credit is due.

My wife isn't giving up a dime to anyone..but, granted, she may be exceptional.  I certainly think so.

Not so much, but that's an individual measure.  Do I see it bellying up to the federal trough?  Yes, and perhaps I see it more often because I'm there too.  Most of the time, whatever project I'm with is partnered with a church.  Basically an artifact of selection.

Ditto on your wife, eh, my wife. You know what I mean.

This was not about your wife.

It was about everybody's wife.

You must be a pearl among swine.

I am intrigued but such a place is not where such details are talked about.

Let me know if you want my e mail.

More like she's a pearl among swine, she's her father's daughter, but sure. I offered it to show that not only is the reality changing predictably with time, churches have been cut out of that loop for some time.

Insomuch as women might still expect less than men, they (nor you) could blame it on churches, as churches do not write our laws. If they did, and when they try to, sure, count me in plus a rifle and little to no regard for the life of the other (good job churches!). Any other time...busy with other shit, politically. As Boru put it, ginning up political support.

It isn’t a case if selling atheism short, it’s a simple matter of demographics. There are simply not enough atheists in most countries to be a viable political force. In the US, for instance, the number of ‘confirmed atheists’ is generally estimated to be about 7% of the population. This is paltry compared to the number of religionists. Couple that with the generally low voter turnout in the US and the political potency of the atheist community is essentially nil.

The Green Party have a better chance at seizing the reins of power than does The Atheist Coalition For A Better Tomorrow.

Atheists, agnostics and others on the left of belief, the non-belief side, by far, outnumber those on the right.

Add in all the non-god religions and the majority on the left does the hockey stick thing.

That is why the world is getting more peaceful.

The atheist plague, to religions, is just the tip of the real reality we live in.

The non-belief tipping point is long past.

Once this last batch of lying preachers dies off, religions will not be seen as what they are at present.

What will be left will look more like mystery schools.

Happy days without the damned homophobic and misogynous religions.
