The N word may be mainstream for black people, but it's still only their word. Ever see the episode of Dear White People when the black people rightfully got upset when a white boy at a party was singing along with the rap lyrics and sang the N word?

If they want to throw the word around freely,  then it's their problem if a white person I'm the group wants to sing along. If they think it's a bad word, then shouldn't put it out there so blatantly.

Nope it's only a bad word when Non-African Americans use it and African Americans can use all they want and there is no reason for  Non-African Americans use it. So this argument is a failure.

If I want to sing certain songs then I need to say it. People are being ridiculously oversenzitve. We need to stop worrying about stupid stuff like that and actually treat one another equally.

You can skip the word. No people are not being "ridiculously oversensitive". Not using the word in no way limits or undermines equality.

As an admittedly weak analogy, I tend to think of the n-word much the way I think of the nickname ‘Paddy’. When used by the Irish to the Irish about the Irish, it’s a simply a diminutive of ‘Patrick’. When used by non-Irish to or about the Irish, it’s grating and offensive.

Are you trying to compare ethnic and racial slurs to aftershave lotion? I think it's generally agreed upon one is slightly more benign than the other and we limit people's actions in public all the time . I'm not allowed to wander down Mainstreet in the nude for example.

Many people find hate speech offensive, but not all speech that people find offensive is hate speech.

And I happen to think intent and context matter. I was told to stop using the n-word in examples that I had questions about during a discussion with staff-only, the reason appearing to be that Tiberius is so woke that the mere whiff of the n-word causes him to collapse in an epileptic fit from which it takes him a couple of hours to recover.
