Operating Systems treated as a religion? (Linux)

(March 30, 2021 at 10:08 pm)Ferrocyanide Wrote: nasty exchanges It's ridiculous and childish that they'd respond to you that way, but it's also completely normal on the Internet. People are proud of being vulgar. They get a kick out of trying to make you feel bad. Obviously, anyone who wants to make another person feel bad when he doesn't have to is just a bad person. But they have all kinds of ways to justify it, and it gives them pleasure. There's no way to make them stop or to "win" a fight with someone like that. The main thing is to make sure you are never like that.
There is always TempleOS -- a biblical-themed operating system designed to be the Third Temple prophesied in the Bible for those very religious people who want to suffer like Jesus by using an OS.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
I have seen Linux users behave like a cult. Their regard for Torvalds approaches worship, exceeding fanhood. This also happened with Jobs and may get as bad with Musk. I haven't noticed Gates worship, but it was likely out there. I design hardware and firmware, and haven't written for a PC in a long time. So, I don't get it. They all have issues and present challenges. That's a good thing.

Their behavior pushes newcomers away and that snowballs because with fewer users, bugs go undetected and unreported. Some of those newcomers might be future programmers and maintainers. Some of them will be in corporations and making decision. They will just whatever they were using at home and school. Someone wrote on his own page that he has even seen Linux users comment "That we don't want gamers on Linux. No need to port games to Linux." I want games ported to Linux! Why? Because it means better drivers from nVidia and AMD and Intel. It means that they will put more programmers on their Linux driver team. Each guy is pulling the cord in a different direction. It's sad. --Ferrocyanide (March 31, 2021 at 9:01 am)Fake Messiah Wrote: There is always TempleOS -- a biblical-themed operating system designed to be the Third Temple prophesied in the Bible for those very religious people who want to suffer like Jesus by using an OS. Well, I'm sure that someone likes it. I remember a wise man once said: Now, the world don't move to the beat of just one drum, What might be right for you, may not be right for some. A man is born, he's a man of means. Then along come two, they got nothing but their jeans. Everybody's got a special kind of story; Everybody finds a way to shine. It don't matter that you got not alot. So what? They'll have theirs, you'll have yours, and I'll have mine. And together we'll be fine! --Ferrocyanide RE: Operating Systems treated as a religion? Why do you end each reply with --Ferrocyanide ?
I mean your name is already in the top. Just like the mod Boru. He writes every comment then add "-Boru" which is quite irritating, and make me feel he's a caveman. Like you saying for example: "Ferrocyanide Boru go this way". --Ferrocyanide or "Ferrocyanide angry". --Ferrocyanide or " Ferrocyanide smash, Ferrocyanide happy" --Ferrocyanide You see?it's weird. As for the topic: look; there are a lot of young;naive people who didn't use many OS, so they become "very biased" for a single one; more like a fan club. Personally I had to use so many from android to ubuntu, so I knew the value of each one. Hated many too. So makes you sound like a Super Mutant too, or the "Gorilla Amy" from the movie "Kongo" when the machine translated her body language. So there is that scene when she -the Gorilla- says: "Amy Peter Go this way".
