I don't focus on the differences, but the fact that most birds have scales on their legs and feet, is a damned good indicator of relationship, just like a bush and tree.

Scales are not a defining characteristic of lizards, dinosaurs, or birds.

One big difference is the position of the legs. Dinosaurs had legs directly beneath them while lizards have legs that sprawl outward and to the side.
