NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Sufficient levels of vitamin D might help protect Hispanic and potentially Black women from developing breast cancer, new research suggests.

"Although Black/African American women and Hispanic/Latina women have lower circulating vitamin D levels than non-Hispanic white women, few studies have examined the association between vitamin D and breast cancer within these racial/ethnic groups," the study team notes in the journal Cancer.

Dr. Katie O'Brien and colleagues with the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences measured 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) and 24,25-dihydroxyvitamin D (24,25(OH)2D) levels in blood samples from 290 Black/African American women and 125 non-Black Hispanic/Latina women who developed breast cancer, and 1,084 Black/African American women and 461 Hispanic/Latina women who did not develop breast cancer.

Over an average follow-up of 9.2 years, women with circulating 25(OH)D levels above the clinical cut point for deficiency (20.0 ng/mL) had a 21% lower breast cancer rate than women with concentrations below this cut point, although the result fell short of statistical significance (hazard ratio, 0.79; 95% CI, 0.61 to 1.02).

Because they fucked up. They KNOW they fucked up, and they can't bring themselves to say how badly they fucked up. In a high-stakes fuck-up like this, people are going to lose their jobs, and once word gets about regarding who was involved in the fuckuppery, they'll have a hard time getting employed elsewhere (no one wants to hire a world-class fucker upper).

How the hell can a police department simply decide they're not accountable to the agency tasked with overseeing them? If they're no accountable to the Texas Department of Public Safety, they're sure hell not going to think they're accountable to the citizens of Uvalde.

A candidate for the GOP nomination for governor of Georgia refused to concede defeat even though she received only 3.4% of the vote on Tuesday.
Kandiss Taylor, a strong supporter of former President Donald Trump, came third in the race.
She received significantly fewer votes than David Perdue, who had Trump's formal endorsement, and incumbent Gov. Brian Kemp, who won by 73.7% and secured the nomination.
After the results were clear, Taylor complained that the election was "rigged" against her, The Daily Beast reported.

I mean, sure, I can kinda sorta understand not conceding if you're in with a chance, but when 96.6% of the electorate reject you, maybe it's time to admit defeat.
