At this point, Biden could save a drowning baby and the GOP would crucify him for taking a lifeguard’s job.

Yes, good point. My reply implies that I was drawing that parallel between the raw commodity and the consumer product, and I didn't intend that. It just made me think about natural gas (input) prices. Of course, my electric company *is* blaming the input commodity price completely for their increase in price, which is way disingenuous.

What else are they supposed to say? That they're profiteering? That shits illegal. Yet another episode in the us having decent laws which we don't enforce.

You'd think with all that profiteering "not" going on that they'd invest some money into protecting their money maker like fortifying and updating the power grid... SMH

Little people like you and I think that, but probably because we view the point of an energy company as generating energy. Our betters, however, know that the point of an energy company is to generate profits. I think that if we're going to credit them with being good at the latter, at least, we have to realize that they themselves have come to the conclusion that their current levels of investment are right where they want them. In the end, energy scarcity and general energy anxiety are good for them, not bad.

Energy companies love an energy crisis as it's an opportunity to extort governments for fewer regulations and more corporate welfare and also a chance to make sure alternative energy is crushed so they remain the only game in town

Elon Musk’s father, Errol Musk, announces he has welcomed a second child with his stepdaughter - who he raised since she was 4 years old.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

I noticed today when checking the powertochoose website for the company rates in Texas, the prices of a few companies have started coming down. Since they allow competition now, some of them are backing off the higher rates. It looks like the $/kwh on a couple of them are about 10% lower than what I was seeing even earlier this week.
It's also somewhat interesting that some of the companies are holding to the higher rates, and will probably continue to. Maybe they have different internal cost structures and ability to shift based on the market, or maybe they just count on inertia of the average customer. All they really seem to be is billing front ends, so I'm indifferent as to who I send the ACH to each month. Regardless of who it is, when there's a transmission issue, I have to go straight to Oncor in every case - all they can do is give me Oncor's phone number.
