Also, FM, I don't know about Google OS, but for iPhone users, once Twitter's deleted from the App Store, that's it, unless you want to jailbreak your phone, which is difficult, and fucking dangerous because it opens up the ability of viruses to get through to your iPhone.

Android does allow people to install apps that are not from the Google store.

More or less. Maybe not the many who still use Android phones, but it'll create a material impact on the base of people who can actually use it.

By the time Musk manages to get his exploding space phone to market, there may very well not even BE a Twitter app to put on it.

I don’t think he wants the phone to actually compete with Android and Apple. I think he wants his own phone because he’s going to run out of Twitter platforms.

Admittedly, compete might not have been the best word, but given the way he talked about it, giving this hypothetical phone a native Android OS would defeat the purpose (and giving it iOS would be functionally impossible), it'd make more sense to create his own OS. Then again, this is the same guy who thought it would be a good idea to just give anyone willing to pay $7 a month a verified blue checkmark (and disincentivizing anyone who didn't do so.)

Maybe, maybe not.  This is Elon Musk we're talking about and he doesn't innovate new things, he buys things from other people and claims he built them.

In this case, maybe he'll talk Bill Gates into selling him the OS for Windows phones and market them as the phone with Twitter.  Or possible he could do something similar with the mobile-phone version of Amazon Fire OS.  Or even blackberry, if he wanted to get REALLY retro.  There are operating systems he could buy instead of just building his own.

The big problem isn't the possibility of Twitter being taken off app stores, it's the possibility that most countries won't allow Twitter with all the "free speech" that Elon is allowing.  Use of "the n-word" jumped 500% after Elon officially purchased Twitter and he brought back people who were banned specifically for making hateful comments.  The American government is very good about protecting free speech, but other countries aren't quite as permissive as we are.  He could find Twitter to be illegal in countries like Germany, France, the UK or many others.  

But, then, that's only a problem if Elon doesn't deal with the fact that he doesn't have the employees he needs to run twitter, the ones he has are currently looking for better jobs, many of his former and current employees are openly mocking him, without the support he needs Twitter could crash quite easily and with all the chaos surrounding Twitter, advertisers are leaving in droves and Twitter, even after firing over half their employees, is hemorrhaging money.
