Not in America. Here, it's a civil tort and adjudged differently. First, it's not "beyond a reasonable doubt", but rather "a preponderance of the evidence" in court. Second, there is no incarceration involved. And third, there is no stain on one's criminal record.

I cannot speak to New Zealand law, but in America, this is solely a civil tort.

Every time I rented a VHS from Blockbuster the damn thing told me I was going to Leavenworth for life plus 50 years if the FBI caught me copying Bambi and shit.

That's theft, not borrowing a melody for a song. Ask Joe Satriani or Jimmy Page. Pirating is not the same as infringement. You may record a copy of a movie, album, or book for your own use. You may not do so for resale.

It's really not that hard. When a song from Coldplay or Led Zeppelin is found to have been rewritten and used to sell albums, it isn't criminal. They didn't go to jail, now did they? When you tape "Star Wars" from a rental tape and then turn around and start selling copies, that's where the FBI warning comes in.

I'm probably rare here in that I do actually own copyrights. I've done a little reading about this.

In general mugshots taken by federal law enforcement agencies(such as federal prisons and the FBI) are in the public domain and are not protected by copyright law. This is because a photo taken by a federal employee as part of their work for the federal government is in the public domain and not protected by copyright law.

However, for mugshots taken by state law enforcement the mugshots may or may not be in the public domain since state, city and other local entities can make their own decisions on whether or not to release mugshots and other photos taken by their employees into the public domain. In addition, some states may chose to restrict access to some mugshots under certain circumstances for reasons unrelated to copyright law.

I haven't seen any source state one way or the other whether or not Georgia or Fulton County regards mugshots as public domain, and I'm not so interested as to waste any more time on it.

France bans sales of Apple's iPhone 12 after watchdog finds above-threshold radiation levels

The French agency that regulates radio frequencies, the ANFR, said that following testing it 'ordered Apple to remove the iPhone 12 from the French market from September 12 due to the model exceeding the limit' for electromagnetic absorption by the body.

'Concerning phones already sold, Apple must in the briefest of delays take corrective measures to bring the affected phones into compliance,' the ANFR said in a statement on its website. 'Otherwise, Apple will have to recall them.'
