I think KISS frontman Gene Simmons may be losing it. In a recent interview, he praised Taylor Swift while lamenting the lack of other 'great' musicians in the current era:

'When we were growing up in the 60s, we had Led Zeppelin, the Stones, the Beatles, Elvis, Pink Floyd, Madonna, Prince, David Bowie. All of that was happening at the same time.' (Bold mine)

Not liking Taylor's style of music does not mean  she has no talent. It merely means you don't like her genre. 

Kiss was popular in the 80s as well, so that is what he meant in including Madonna and Prince. Maybe not well phrased, but still accurate in including Madonna and Prince and Bowie in the ranks of Floyd,  Zeppelin, Stones, Beatles. I'd say the only overrated icon mentioned was Elvis. He had most of his songs written for him. Taylor writes her own songs.

Madonna Prince were both born in 1958 and not really on the touring circuit in the 60s. Zeppelin was formed in 1968 which make them much more an early 70s group.

Being a year older than Prince and Madonna means that when Woodstock happened we were pre-teens in the 60s.

Gene Simmons is now, and always was, a bag of hot air.  He is overly impressed with himself.

This is no different than telling him to keep his opinions to himself. Disagree with his opinions all you like, but telling him to shut up is uncool.

To be fair, Vernon is a complete badass. If he reaches Brian better than Jimi did, that's a Brian thing, and who's to say he's wrong about his tastes?

I never have liked "better/worse" when it comes to musicians, your point is apt in that sense.
