Around 2.5 million people lived in extreme poverty in Poland in 2023, equivalent to 6.6% of the country’s population, a new report by the Polish branch of the European Anti-Poverty Network (EAPN) shows. That figure rose 47% compared to the previous year and reached its highest level in almost a decade.

EAPN ascribes the rise to Poland’s economic situation, in particular persistently high inflation, which reached a 26-year high of 18.4% in early 2023. But it also warns that “systemic problems in social policy” have left many struggling, in particular families with children, seniors and disabled people.

The network has called on the authorities to introduce automatic indexation of benefits and to create a more “coherent system of income criteria”, because the current system results in some people who live in extreme poverty being above the statutory poverty threshold to qualify for support.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said under oath that Tucker Carlson is funded by a Russian state-owned media outlet, without providing evidence for the claim.

Trudeau made the allegation about Carlson and fellow conservative media personality Jordan Peterson while testifying at a public inquiry into foreign interference on Wednesday.

The Canadian prime minister was addressing alleged Russian influence in spreading anti-vaccine messaging in the media and on social media during the "Freedom Convoy," a protest against COVID-19 vaccines and restrictions in Canada in early 2022.

"We've recently seen that RT is currently funding bloggers and other YouTube personalities of the right, such as Jordan Peterson. Other names that are well known, Tucker Carlson as well, in order to amplify messages that are destabilizing democracies," Trudeau said, naming the Russian state-controlled network.

The 'Sound of Freedom' saga finally comes full circle as Tim Ballard and the anti-trafficking org he founded are accused of human trafficking in a new federal lawsuit:

The women once again lay out a narrative of being recruited by Ballard and OUR to take part in rescue missions of trafficked individuals, only to then be “groomed” to become physically intimate with the married Ballard as part of what he called a “couples ruse,” intended to fool traffickers into believing they were romantically involved. Ballard also justified extramarital sex, the suit alleges, by saying that a psychic medium he regularly consulted told him he was a “prophet” and did not have to follow rules.
