[Serious] Non-binary
#1
Non-binary
Be forewarned that the opinions expressed below may offend you

The definition of Nonbinary is as follows:

Quote:Non-binary (also spelled nonbinary) or genderqueer is an umbrella term for gender identities that are neither male nor female‍—‌identities that are outside the gender binary.

From a scientific, biological, and objectively reasonable perspective, there are only two genders. Male or female. This is a fact that cannot be disputed.

How someone wishes to identify, however, is an entirely different matter, and lately I have found myself being more against the ill logics of the nonbinary movement despite being a part of the gay community. The reason for this is quite simple: I can no more support the delusion of a nonbinary concept any more than I can the concept of a deity that does not exist. Granted, how one wishes to identify in relation to the nonbinary ideology is not harmful to others. Therefore, I have no qualms accepting how others wish to identify. Yet, in spite of this, I cannot fully accept being nonbinary is in any way rational.

I can accept inclusivity up to a reasonable point, but once it no longer resembles logic I cannot in good conscience accept it as a reality.

Fixed for you, so that the thing you say actually cant be disputed, instead of being a thing that is laughably and demonstrably inaccurate..and..therefore...easily accessible to disputes of any kind.

IOW, you're so wrong about this, that anyone who accepts it will inevitably come up with some other equally inaccurate opinion about an item of complete irrelevance to your beliefs.

It can be disputed. It has been disputed. It is being disputed every day.

Do you have an argument as to why you think the people who dispute it are wrong?

Quote:I have no qualms accepting how others wish to identify. Yet, in spite of this, I cannot fully accept being nonbinary is in any way rational.

If you say that everyone who identifies as non-binary, or those of us who accept them, are all irrational, this sounds to me as if you have a "qualm" with us.

So far you haven't offered any logic. Only assertions.

I'd be interested to hear the logic by which you reached your conclusions.

I have little idea about the details of the binary community (though I know some young people who identify as such).

I think one aspect of identifying as male/female is cultural stereotypes, and not everyone fits them.

There is also a sexual identity around this - how one wants to experience sexual intimacy, and whether this more closely matches that of a man or woman.

I think non-binary is fine, but I would prefer people not have to label themselves, and just look and act how they want.  Perhaps that not so easy.

Perhaps the identification as non-binary is about getting acceptance.  I'm sure I would raise some eyebrows if I decided to wear a dress to work, but why should anyone care?  Having something to call yourself can be a bit of shield against society.

RE: Non-binary
I don't really have an issue with who wants to be called what but with changes every day I am having a difficult time keeping up.

I made an assumption based on the name during a tech support call the other day and found myself apologizing.

And what, may I ask, happened to androgynous? I always took that to mean a person was not all one thing or another as far as male and female goes.

No "Okay Boomer" comments, I really am trying.

Frankly - I don't give a shit what plumbing someone has - nor do I care to know what - if anything -blows wind up their skirt.

It only becomes an issue when they stick their shit in my face and tell me I need to respect their - whatever...

Then they become just as annoying as the funeral disrupters from Westboro Baptist.....

Yeah, I definately fall in the "okay boomer" category too, even if technically I am genx. Twenty years ago I was working on a high-rise job site. One of the subs, in addition to his hard hat and work duds, worn a full compliment of very femanine looking make-up, and maybe he got a couple second looks but overall no one cared. Working class people are like that. Live and let live.

IMHO, the USA is going through yet another moral panic, not unlike all the previous ones, in the 80's and 90's. Only this time, it is coming from the radical left. Maybe it isnt so bad for the right to get a taste of its own medicine, I guess, just so long as as a culture we can get over ourselves and get back to making things.

The rate of violence committed against Trans and Non-binary people says otherwise

Nope, the panic is still on the right. How many hours of right-wing media screeching about imaginary menaces and evil agendas do I need to point to?
