Skynet is already here.

Skynet is already here.
I'm thinking of how many billions of cute little echos and google and apple (and every other manufacturer) speaker/microphone things we voluntarily have plugged into our homes.
They give us convenience we give them our privacy. What a bargain! For just $49.95!

All our data is stored on "their" servers including video from smart doorbells, etc. How do we know that big corp won't turn on us if/when the need arises? CCP style!
Skynet was about robots enslaving humans, but it was always just little cute robots we voluntarily allowed into our homes and private lives. All for the sake of a little convenience.

We are all being enslaved, but in ultra slow motion, so we don't notice it.
And before we know it, we'll own nothing and still be happy.

RE: Skynet is already here.
My daughter and son-in-law (and their daughter) have a camera in their house, have a Ring doorbell, and have Life 360 on their phones. Drives me crazy when daughter is here as her phone is always pinging with the comings and goings of her household. They also have either Alexa or Echo or one of those devices.

I suppose I understand the tracking of her teenaged daughter but damn, there just isn't anyone that I want to track 24/7, nor do I want to be tracked 24/7.

There is nothing like Alexa in our home, and never will be. Wife and I agree. I do have CCTV but that's for vandals. Amazingly enough, the vandalism stopped the day the cameras went up. The camera on my laptop is disabled in the software and had tape over it, to boot. If I ever buy anything that can listen to me, that won't be a feature and will be physically disabled. We are controlled by four-footed pets, though. And they don't listen, much. Rolleyes

No cameras other than the wife's iphone and ipad. We know her phone listens to us, we'll talk about something and she'll start getting ads, See's candy for mothers day was the most recent.
I don't have an anger problem, I have an idiot problem.

I am not sure that micromarketing will lead to robots becoming our overlords. It sure as hell can lead to more corporate greed and government corruption. But not sure there will ever be an age where robots 100% replace humans, much less robots seeking to exterminate humans.

If any big Corp choose to violate my privacy by looking at the video from inside my bathroom, they will pay for their folly because even a glimpse of the sheer horror of the sight will permanently deprive them of the use of their optical sensory organs.
