The Islamic prophet's foreknowledge of the Terfeziaceae's health benefits

The Islamic prophet's foreknowledge of the Terfeziaceae's health benefits
Hi there,

I just came across an authentic, and an unbelievably accurate saying of the prophet PBUH, reported in both Al-Bukhari and Muslim, the two most authoritative collections of authentic hadiths;

I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying, "Truffle (edible fungus) is a species of Al-Manna and their water cures eye diseases."
https://sunnah.com/riyadussalihin:1868

Scientific literature on the potential antimicrobial benefits of the Terfeziaceae, or the desert truffles, goes back to only a few decades.

This recent study in 2016;

https://farmaciajournal.com/wp-content/u...98-301.pdf

shows the desert truffles can be used for the treatment of eye infections,

"the aqueous extract from T. claveryi possessed the antimicrobial properties against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Staphylococcus aureus, and consequently, their usage was suggested to treat eye infections caused by those three bacterial species" [https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7301458/]

The prophet's foreknowledge in this particular saying is incontrovertible. Reported authentic hadiths like the one above are cumulative evidence of his message being divinely inspired.

So, the only way to learn that truffles help eye infections is if god tells someone. So that means the scientists who wrote those papers must also have been told by god.
If you say, "No, the scientists learned about this by doing it.", then it would stand to reason that at some point in the past (not really all that long ago if the hadith date is to be believed) someone else learned by doing it also.
The hadith wasn't a prediction of the future, but the recording of a discover, albeit with an unnecessary supernatural twist.

Microorganisms were discovered for the first time in the 17th century, almost one thousand years after Muhammad's death, and almost 800 years after Al-Bukhari compiled his famous hadith collection. There is no way anyone back then could have investigated some antimicrobial effect of truffles.

To vague to draw any specific conclusions from.
I don't have an anger problem, I have an idiot problem.

It wasn’t necessary to investigate, or even have knowledge of, the antimicrobial properties of truffle water, any more that a detailed knowledge of analgesia was necessary to observe that chewing willow bark alleviates toothache.

LostLocke is right - this isn’t so much a prophecy as an observation.

You're an idiot. They don't need to know about microorganisms to learn of a folk remedy.

Quote:The first mention of truffles appears in the inscriptions of the neo-Sumerians regarding their Amorite enemy's eating habits (Third Dynasty of Ur, 20th century BC)[5] and later in writings of Theophrastus in the fourth century BC. In classical times, their origins were a mystery that challenged many; Plutarch and others thought them to be the result of lightning, warmth, and water in the soil, while Juvenal thought thunder and rain to be instrumental in their origin. Cicero deemed them children of the earth, while Dioscorides thought they were tuberous roots.[6]

Rome and Thracia in the Classical period identified three kinds of truffles: Tuber melanosporumT. magnificus, and T. magnatum. The Romans instead used a variety of fungus called terfez, also sometimes called a "desert truffle". Terfez used in Rome came from LesbosCarthage, and especially Libya, where the coastal climate was less dry in ancient times.[6] Their substance is pale, tinged with rose. Unlike truffles, terfez have little inherent flavour. The Romans used the terfez as a carrier of flavour, because the terfez tend to absorb surrounding flavours. Indeed, since Ancient Roman cuisine used many spices and flavourings, the terfez were appropriate in that context.

This "fungus" is ancient and already was used by Romans and Sumerians.

How is that a "prophecy"?
Oh right...Hadith told you so -_-

It's not vague. The saying mentions the truffle's water AND the eye. Too risky to say that for a prophet who purportedly faked his prophecy.

Sure, it's easy.
Someone pours truffle juice in their eye, either intentionally or by accident, and finds their eye infection clears up. No need for knowledge about microorganisms.

People have chewed cocoa and coffee beans for centuries because it gave them energy, without having the foggiest concept of caffeine.

You don't get it. This remedy is not known as the literature on it is lacking until recent times. Plus, the prophet is clearly taking an unnecessary risk by mentioning that. This saying is better explained if he were a prophet than if he weren't.
