Will leaving the state work in Texas

It will be interesting to see if the Dems stick together and, if it happens, the Pubs knee jerk reaction
Quote:Democrats in the Texas House of Representatives plan to leave the state and fly to Washington, D.C., Monday afternoon, according to sources with knowledge of the plan, in a bid to again deny Republicans the quorum needed to pass new voting restrictions with 27 days left in a special legislative session called largely for that purpose.
Upping the ante in both the legislative fight at home and the national debate over voting rights, most House Democrats are expected to board a flight out of Austin headed for the capital without a set return date. They'll need at least 51 of the 67 Democratic representatives to flee for their plan to work......
......"All absentees for whom no sufficient excuse is made may, by order of a majority of those present, be sent for and arrested, wherever they may be found, by the sergeant-at-arms or an officer appointed by the sergeant-at-arms for that purpose, and their attendance shall be secured and retained," the House rules state. "The House shall determine on what conditions they shall be discharged."

I think that’s the idea. To force nutbars to play hardball out in the open.
Are they so committed to facism that they’re willing to compel the police forces of an (allegedly) democratic state to implicate themselves in a legislative coup?
My bet is that they are. They’re full on in the tank accelerationists….they’re just bad at it, so it never pans out.

Yeah, it is different because the reasons are different. No surprise the tiny bit of nuisance flew over your head

I'm not familiar with the other incident. Doesn't seem to me like walking out of your job is a good way to get your job done though... someone should probably enlighten me.

It can be the last form of effective protest and action.
Republicans in the state are flirting with the idea of a theocratic ethnostate- but they need a small amount of Democrats to -be- there if they want the patina of legality applied to their efforts.
Walking out won’t stop the reich wing from being terrible, but it will stop them from claiming that it was anything other than what it is.

Because they’re not trying to get their job done. That’s the whole point. Same reason coal miners go on strike - by refusing to do the job, you hope the other side will come to the table.

She needs to take a page from Trump and use executive powers willy nilly.
Article 5 section 9: The Governor shall be commander in cheif [sic] of the military, and naval forces of this State, and may call out such forces to execute the laws, to suppress insurrection [sic], or to repel invasion
Sounds like legislative insurrection to me.

And whether he said it or not is of relevance as the circumstances ARE different
