It was General Patton who said, "No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country."

The Taliban have no country, just some stupid, false religion, and yes, given 20 years of warfare, some things have gone terribly wrong.  It was a mistake to pull out.

The Soviets damn sure fought to win in Afghanistan before pulling out.  How did that turn out for them?

We accomplished our objectives in Afghanistan within three weeks.  We then turned the operation into a conventional one and attempted to grant our version of freedom to people who aren't interested in it.

If Afghanistan's government needs billions of our dollars a year and the might of the U.S. military to defeat an irregular force of it's own citizens, it doesn't have the backing of its own people or properly interested leadership and is a lost cause.

Point taken.  If they ever even think about terrorism, We need to put them in their place, in a decisive and unambiguous manner.

The Afghan security forces were and still are fully capable of defeating the Taliban. They just don’t want to. They took off their uniforms and surrendered within minutes to the Taliban as they rolled in to take over their cities. No fight, no resistance.

So the change you want to see ultimately has to come from the Afghans, and they clearly don’t seem to have an interest in it.

Who will mostly pay for this? Young Afghan girls who will be ripped from their schools and forcibly married to Taliban soldiers.

And China and Russia will happily become their allies if it means cheap labor and exploiting natural resources.
Pakistan is already in the Taliban's pocket.

Sanctions won't do a thing.

I can only hope many women and girls are able to flee for their lives.

I’m not sure it’s fair to call the Taliban ‘morons’. They stymied the US for 20 years. It think it’s more accurate to call the US morons for fighting the same war twenty times and STILL not getting it right.
