Honestly, the question of how Ruth would have fared in today's league is a fair one. The art of pitching has evolved considerably since Ruth's time. Ruth struck out an awful lot as it was. Could he have handled the movement a modern pitcher puts on a ball? It's impossible to know. There's no question that he was unparalleled compared to his peers but baseball is hardly the same game now that it was then. Of course it's equally valid to ask how his modern day critics would have fared in Ruth's era - without the benefit of modern training tools and techniques, modern medicine and nutrition and having to travel to away games on a train.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.
