It's not a matter of "understanding" and to answer the second question - neither. Their position predates the modern euthanasia position by thousands of years.
While I don't have an exact answer, I do think a more accurate summary would be that secularists/atheists have a hard time understanding the value of life as it is understood in a Christian worldview.
The official dogmatic line is that assisted dying ticks all three boxes for being a mortal (rather than a venial) sin - it is grave, it is done with knowledge of the gravity of the act, and it is done with consent.
Also, it ends suffering, which the Church has always had a woody for. They feel it is more blessed to endure unending pain and misery than to end it peacefully and with at least a modicum of dignity.

Nonsense, christianity has assisted plenty of people to their deaths. Usually without consent.

And with extreme prejudice, i.e., the Inquisition.

Right; the mortal sin being the taking of a life, hence my statement that secularists/atheists tend to fundamentally misunderstand the value that Christians' put on human life.

Do you have a problem with Just War theory?
Otherwise Christianity has taken zero lives without consent, sorry.

I understand that christians only see value when it fits their agenda. Wasn't really all that hard.

You must enjoy being a special kind of fucked up. I'll not be looking into your loony posts any longer. You've been added to my "simps" list.

The ole "I didn't do that, but if I did the bitch deserved it" bit, eh? I find it unpersuasive. Your idea of justification will boil down to white supremacist garbage, and even if we zeroed out all the horrid shit you'd think was a-okay on those grounds we would not run short of other corpses. You nuts have a tendency to babble about the sanctity of life from your perch atop a death cult steeped in life rejecting ideology, usually when you want to hurt yet another person, but it's clear from your actions past and present that you've never believed in it.
