I am not fond of gamey meat either.
...
I could feed you some of our venison - and you would believe it to be very lean beef.
The deer in this area eat the same thing cattle eat..
Also - I am fanatical about my processing. I do not "age" the meat - but work very hard to get it washed and chilled as quickly as humanly possible. If the.meat is loaded with blood due to a fast kill ( headshot) then I soak the meat in cold water for 8-12 hours before processing.
My dad never acquired a taste for ganey venison - but always gets seconds with any I serve....

Where I live (Iowa), crossbows are illegal, unless you are disabled. (Go figure.)

I think we have duck season.
Doesn't bother me because I'm not fond of the taste of game meat. Nor do I share or understand the atavistic pleasure hunters seem to get from killing things.
Of course, I think I would soon learn to hunt or even kill chickens if it was the only way I could have meat to eat. Until that time I'll buy meat the supermarket in its neat little packages..
Some one here recently commented on a young woman with fashionably torn jeans and a sign as advocating an "effete cause" Finally, some one whose attitude seems similar to mine. Intolerant old fuck that I am, I think PETA are a bunch of little old ladies of both sexes who care more about animals than people.
There are two countries which come to mind in which vegetarianism is especially common; India and China, especially in rural areas. As far as I can tell, for a great many people in those countries this is simply because they cannot afford meat . Consequently, I see vegetarianism in affluent countries such as my own as a little pretentious.
A secular humanist, I'm unable to see animals as more important than people. The claims on the privvy purse are many and my finances limited. Consequently I am only able to support charities which help people. Although, I have always obtained my dogs from animal welfare. My present dog, a Jack Russell, cost me $700. He's my fifth since 1976.
No life is more important to other life. If you have no compunction to squashing a cockroach, do you think that cockroach gives a shit about spreading a disease to you?
Humans ARE important to other humans for sure. But in the history of our planet, our planet doesn't give a shit about a cockroach or human.

If you ever come down under, be sure you try kangaroo. Quite few supermarkets sell it. Mainly as steaks as well as sausages and mettwurst. I've only ever eaten it once and that was because I thought it was beef, even after I'd eaten it ,as sate at a barbeque./ Kangaroo is a very lean meat, much leaner than beef, and is recognised as appropriate for a low cholesterol diet.
Apart from 'roo, Emu meat is eaten and up north, crocodile. Have never tried either.
There are all kinds of more exotic animals and grubs also eaten, but not by me.

Anyone who hunts deer is nothing more than a Bambi-murdering bastard and needs to be sure to serve them up with plenty of onions and bacon.

I actually enjoy gamey flavor. I'll take duck or goose over chicken every time.

Ever had a capon? I could change your mind about that...so long as you don't ask how the proverbial sausage is made.

Dad liked duck and goose too. He brought a duck he had cooked to our house one Thanksgiving or Christmas. I ate some to be polite but wasn't all that impressed. It wasn't awful but I don't even like dark meat from chicken.

Same where I was in the 90's, it's a shame, that's a big bird.

In my experience, if you marinate gamey meat in any lactic acid and cook to reduce the fat that makes it to the plate, you get all the good notes and dispense with the unpleasant. Tzatziki is a one step solution. If you're ever feeling adventurous. Me, I can't stand the taste of unpasteurized milk. We grew up on it, but I don't think I'd drink it unless I was dying and didn't need to take a piss. I'm sure I'd get to that awful shit eventually...just.....no. You'd find me in the woods licking leaves and suckling tall grass first.
