I think we have duck season.

Doesn't bother me because I'm not fond of the taste of game meat. Nor do I share or understand the atavistic pleasure hunters seem to get from killing things.

Of course, I think I would soon learn to hunt or even kill chickens if it was the only way I could have meat to eat.  Until that time I'll buy meat the supermarket in its neat little packages..

Some one here recently commented on a young woman with fashionably torn jeans and a sign as advocating an "effete cause"  Finally, some one whose attitude seems similar to mine. Intolerant old fuck that I am, I think PETA are a bunch of little old ladies of both sexes who care more about animals than people.

There are two countries which come to mind in which vegetarianism is especially common; India and China, especially in rural areas. As far as I can tell, for a great many people in those countries this is simply because they cannot afford meat . Consequently, I see vegetarianism in affluent countries such as my own as a little pretentious.

A secular humanist, I'm unable to see animals as more important than people. The claims on the privvy purse are many and my finances limited. Consequently I am only able to support charities which help people. Although, I have always obtained my dogs from animal welfare. My present dog, a  Jack Russell, cost me $700. He's my fifth since 1976.

No life is more important to other life. If you have no compunction to squashing a cockroach, do you think that cockroach gives a shit about spreading a disease to you?

Humans ARE important to other humans for sure. But in the history of our planet, our planet doesn't give a  shit about a cockroach or human.

Our care for other human beings is relative and abstract. How could it be otherwise? If we cared emotionally  about indefinite numbers of anonymous others we would be poor and crazy.

Have you ever noticed from the news how the lives of say African children are not as valuable as American children except in the abstract?

I prefer to keep things as personal as possible.  MY life is more important  to me than an indefinite number of lower order beings, from microbes to orangutans, even to other human beings who may in fact be far more valuable to society than I. Angel

Probably, yeah.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

But what about White Stags? Would you kill them too considering that they are sacred to the Natives?

Like this one whose location is undisclosed — to protect it from non-Native hunters.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

The Other White Meat, eh?
.

Are you going to quit eating beef because the Hindi think it might be the reincarnation of their grandfather?

Piebald and albino deer are now fair game in Michigan..they changed the rules a few years back.

So yeah - whack em and stack em....

Isn't it unusual for an albino or otherwise differently colored deer (or most any other animal) likely not to live as long as the one in the picture?

It depends on location. There are refuges where hunting is not allowed - both private and public lands.

With no predation they breed like rats and live unnaturally long lives.

Whith no predation they breed like rats..

I didn't think about refuges...guess I was focused on life in the wild.

Refuges come in many forms - probably one of the least considered is city limits - where hunting is generally prohibited. I have a friend who lives on the outside of a city who has several trailcams out. The deer population triples there during gun season...

Gotta 6 point buck right before sunset. Saw it at 200 yards heading my way. Waited about 10 minutes as he grazed across the field getting soybeans on the ground. Turned sideways at 100. DRT. The 450 Bushmaster WORKS. He didnt even jump. Just folded up, dropped to the ground and twitched a few times.

Meat already in the fridge.

Got 2 tags left.
