New music, Old music

From Al Di Meola to ZZ Top. From Sinatra to Slayer. And just about everything in between.

I love Catholic music so much. The choir and organ sound really good, and Gregorian chants are amazing.

The only reason I went to Catholic mass was because I discovered that a Cheerleader from a rival High School, which I eventually transferred to, just because of her, went to the same Catholic Church I did.

Pro tip, not a good idea to hit on someone and ask them for a date in the middle of the mass. Her brother followed me out of the parking lot and threatened to beat me up if I spoke to her again.

I still ended up transferring to her High School, and for a very stupid reason.  I hate hormones, I hate that youth does not come with instructions. I am glad that I got over all that bullshit.

But outside of her, Catholic mass was boring. Up down, up down, sit stand kneel, as if they were P90X, then you eat a cracker with no ranch or hot sauce. I once walked out of a mass, after the Pastor did a sermon about how the body is a temple and you should not abuse it, only to see the same guy smoking a cigarette.

Elegant Gypsy is a masterpiece that I defiled by keeping in a 8-track case with Foghat.

I'll stick with Hendrix.

Have a nice day. Thank you very much.

I'd bet if Hendrix had not died, he'd give megga kudos to Living Colour's guitarist Vernon Reid.

Kudos to anyone who can

A. Remember Cheech's stage name during the scene above.

or

B. Remember what was on Tommy's shirt during the same performance.

Don't get me wrong, there are some old bands that I really love, such as Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, and Metallica. I just feel like people shouldn't gush over old bands and keep the music scene trapped in the past, always trying to live up to old standards. There are newer artists I listen to, such as Carly Rae Jepsen, Billie Eilish, and Grimes, who really take modern music to a really great place, and it would be really cool if more modern artists did novel stuff with their music. People shouldn't gatekeep old bands, they're old news. Let's bring in the new.

People listen to and perhaps purchase music they like.  They attend concerts of musicians they like.  If they don't like the music, they don't buy it, listen to it or go to those concerts.

No dichotomy exists between choosing old or new music, both are equally available for the most part.  If anything older music might be a little harder to find in the desired format.  There's plenty of time for people to listen to as much music as they like and as people become more familiar with any song over time they tend to listen to it less and look for other songs to listen to based mostly on their musical preferences.  So the age of the music has little to do with it's validity in the marketplace.

What do you prefer? Old music or new music?

Old, for sure.  I can only listen to most newer artists for a few seconds before I change the channel.  Some exceptions; 21 Pilots and Lorde for example.
