For me - few things beat the PC use of genderless terms - when it' s completely uncalled for - to wit -
"Pregnant people".
Fucking seriously?
"People"?
Maybe it's ignorant of me i'm often told it's ignorant because it's "important" Although I agree for certain things I disagree for others. There is enough information online and trusting friends who tell me what's going on in the world when it's needed. But the media always gave me anxiety growing up so as I got older I choose to not watch the media it's not good for my health. Unless it's voting day or something I know is important I ignore the news. I do of course live in a society with other people so when I'm over someone else's place the news is usually playing and honestly, i suck when it comes to telling others something from the top of my head. But I can say I noticed the way the media likes to take good information and worp it in a way that isn't entirely true? I don't know...because there are things like covid that are true and legit. But then I see things like fox news and I'm just like go away! I can't do media they just feed off each other's negativity instead of ignoring the negativity and focusing on improving the quality.

How is this going to help morbidly obese individuals who are in the process of eating themselves to death?
Morbid obesity is an actual medical diagnosis you twit.
I linked to the AMA telling professionals not to call people morbidly obese. I don't know what more you want than that. If you don't want to read the link and inform yourself of new suggestions made by the AMA, that's your problem. This issue seems very personal to you as you've gotten upset about me talking about obesity before, and you perhaps have obese people in your life that you think I'm putting down. That is not the case. There's no need to take it personally.

Nice try, but I have said on here in the past that I have been lucky genetically as far as weight goes.
You are the one with issues with people who are overweight, as you said...you have brought it up more than once.

Bullshit, read the document.: https://www.ama-assn.org/system/files/am...-guide.pdf
From the Acknowledgements section:
Quote:This guide is not intended to be a definitive and all-encompassing instruction manual. Instead, it was written (with humility) to stimulate heightened awareness and dialogue. We offer this guide as a tool, knowing that efforts to nurture change in contentious spaces requires courage and commitment. Undermining systemic oppression and the dominant narratives that sustain them will not happen by chance. Reclaiming and promoting a social justice narrative will require intentional and collective action. This guide is a first step.
In the guide they suggest that the person/individual is acknowledged before the condition. (i.e. don't directly refer to individuals/people as 'the obese or the morbidly obese' but 'people with obesity or people with morbid obesity'). I don't have an issue with that. Do you understand the difference?
However, I think the Preamble and sections of the Introduction were over the top and I don't agree with all of the suggestions and conclusions but then I'm a white male so I can't really speak to the perceptions of non whites. Do those individuals all feel their being marginalized (choose a better word if you like), I doubt it. But apparently there are enough that the AMA (and other entities) decided to sign on to endorsing the guide. Following the guides 'suggested' directions may enhance communications with those who feel they experience health inequities from health care providers. I'm positive that some of the communication that is perceived as marginalization is a caused by ignorance and not intention.

Are you being serious right now? The AMA suggests using different terms, therefore they think terms like morbidly obese are problematic, or they wouldn't be suggesting a change in terms. I wasn't claiming that the AMA was saying that saying morbidly obese is the same as saying the N word, and I reported that they were 'suggestions' as you point out, and you would know that if you read my posts. The document does not suggest to refer to individuals as 'people with morbid obesity' as you claim in your post. It says try using 'people with severe obesity'. This is bowing down to the anti-science fat acceptance movement by no longer referring to their health condition as 'morbid'.

Well, I see that you at least read the document this time. However, your reading comprehension is either completely in the toilet or is faulty due to ulterior motivations.
Of course intentionally ignorant would fit in nicely as a third option.
Edit-side note: Last night I thought about the article and how the guide will effect the medical professionals I know. My conclusion is not much. Most have to much on their plate already to be this concerned about patient feelings at the documents level. So, it turns out the the article IA posted and people like IA are simply stirring a basically empty pot.
