He seems to hold on to the classical view that if there is trouble, if there is a weather problem, if there is a disease spreading, then it is the gods that are punishing people.
I do remember him saying something about Colorado, I think. In 2005, the judge ruled that intelligent design is creationism and should be booted out of class. He said something like “Watch out. God is angry at you. He will destroy you. You have no hope.”
My memory might be faulty. I saw the video on youtube a few years ago.
Overall, he seemed to be a disgusting character who puts his religion above everything and lowers people who do not agree with his views.
I’m not from the USA but I have noticed that there is a religious extreme there. A good portion wants to have a theocracy. A minor portion, such as the Westboro Baptist church and this Pat (he is also of the southern baptist flavor) desire to kill homosexuals.
They tend to dehumanise the people they don’t like.
I have seen videos of ISIS tying up a person for being a homosexual to a chair and pushing him off a building. 2-3 y ago?
In the case of the Rwanda genocide of 1994, some people from the Hutu side started to use religion to spread hate. They were claiming that the Tutsi’s were working for satan, were demons, etc. Some of them were using the radio to spread such hate. When you dehumanize another group, it makes it easier to convince your soldiers to hate them and kill them.
There is the case of the 1890 to 1918 period armenian genocide. This was a ethnocleasing-religious cleansing attempt. Apparently, at some point, turks started to spread the message that christians had no soul. I don’t know whether that was believed or not.
I haven’t understood how is it that the USA allows such hate speech to be spread.
How often does Pat Robertson talk against LGBT?
I know that for the Westboro baptist church, it was their everyday thing to badmouth gays and jews.
