But hey - if you like that sorta thing - go for it...

If you could just show me where ‘the right to smoke’ is enshrined, that’d be great.

Vaping? Not yet here, but it's only a matter of time. Vaping is also very bad; nicotine is a poison after all

That’s from your Declaration of Independence, which no more enshrines your rights than a letter from your great uncle Frim - a beautiful piece of rhetoric, but it doesn’t have the force of law.

No, the proposed law doesn’t apply to vaping, except to the extent that you won’t be able to vape tobacco. The law isn’t a prelude to banning smoking, it’s a prelude to banning tobacco.

It appears how much benefit and idea can bring to humanity is almost always directly proportional to how Stridently people like OLB will trout out spurious right arguments to oppose it and Cast aspersions upon it

Just remember - alcohol is next!

It costs New Zealanders far more than the taxes it brings in.... Perhaps if they 10 fold increase taxes on it...

Who expected this to go any other way when his first objection to a smoking ban was that only sheeple believed that the government really knew what was good for them better than they did.

-as if whether smoking was good for anyone were in doubt.

At work.

Most times I regard Onlinebiker as not a bad bloke.

But the times when they just throw their American ideas around about foriegn behaviours and expect those folks from other countries to give a rat's petunias about what Onlinebiker's opinion is stated as in regards to said events?

Ah well.

Not a particularly american idea. We have a huge list of restricted substances ourselves.

"Just remember - alcohol is next!"

I've heard some non sequiturs, but that one is a doozy.

Pray tell on what evidence do you base your claim?

Would like to see a government  in Australia or New Zealand try that. Drink driving is a major cause of road deaths here. Yet so far, no government has had the nerve to reduce the blood alcohol limit to 0.00 for everyone. It's already the case for probationary [new] licence holders, and is for 2 years. Also applies to anyone who had lost their licence for drink driving when they are allowed to drive again.

I'm a recovering alcoholic (since 30 June 2002) I loved booze. Beer, spirits and wine. My state of South Australia produces world class wines, and good wine is cheap here. I think a glass or two of wine with dinner is a mark of the civilised person. I have no problem with tough laws surrounding the consumption of alcohol. It's one of those times, where suitable punishment is built in. IE "You can't obey our drink driving laws? Okey dokey, then you may not drive on our roads "  Perhaps on say a third offence, the car could be confiscated.(?)

I seem to remember reading and seeing films about a thing called The Volstead Act being tried in the US in 1920.. How did that work out?

As one of the dozens of people in the world who don’t live in the US, I see your point.
