Syria has an area of 71 500 square miles. If the US is occupying 1/3 of that, this that means each of the 900 US soldiers in-country controls about 28 square miles. Fucking badasses.

By way of comparison, it took Russia 200 000 troops to gain shaky control of 35 000 square miles of Ukraine. In other words, it took Russia almost six soldiers (not counting the dead ones) to occupy each square mile of Ukrainian soil. Fucking clown shoes.

(For purposes of the above, I’m buying into Bel’s absurd notion that the US troops in Syria are a force of occupation).

I suppose we’ll revisit this at the end of November, then.

I will be "forever" on your side!!!  If such does happen, I have my doubts that any of us will be posting here for very long.

Why wouldn’t we be? Russia using nukes in Ukraine is unlikely to trigger a global thermonuclear Holocaust.

A much more likely scenario is Russia setting off a dirty bomb in one of its own cities, blaming Ukraine, and using it to justify the use of non-nuclear WMDs.

Seriously, I am trying not to think about this.  It's a beautiful day today.  Northwestern (1-6) is at Iowa (3-4), a game of losers!  I am traveling to Iowa City later this afternoon to visit my adult son and hope to avoid the hooligans and/or traffic jams.

The idea Russia would ever risk using even a tactical nuke so close to it's own borders has always seemed far fetched

Even more far-fetched is the idea of using one so close to NATO countries. That’s an Article 5 trigger waiting to happen.
