teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Russia's strategy for decades to come is discussed on Russian state TV which is Russia's absorption of the neighboring countries into "one big Russian home," with eventual expansion to the Balkans and Poland.

Now, the pundits and experts on Russian state TV argue whether President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky is the Antichrist or just a small demon

Russia is said to be running low on high precision missiles (90% of these are being intercepted by Ukrainian air defenses anyway) and they have either used all their stocks of Iranian drones or (as it is said) these drones are not working properly in cold weather.

The cold weather is affecting more than their drones. Reliable reportage is that the Russians don't have sufficient cold-weather gear. Ukraine, however, is set to receive massive amounts of it from Finland and Sweden (countries who know a thing or ten about fighting in midwinter).

I've never been a soldier, but I imagine that, when you're rapidly freezing to death, your enthusiasm for engaging the enemy drops off rather sharply.

RE: Russia and Ukraine
Quote:KYIV/NOVOSOFIIVKA, Ukraine, Dec 6 (Reuters) - A third Russian airfield was ablaze on Tuesday from a drone strike, a day after Ukraine demonstrated an apparent new ability to penetrate hundreds of kilometers deep into Russian air space with attacks on two Russian air bases.

Officials in the Russian city of Kursk, located closer to Ukraine, released pictures of black smoke above an airfield in the early morning hours of Tuesday after the latest strike. The governor said an oil storage tank there had been set ablaze but there were no casualties.

It came a day after Russia confirmed it had been hit by what it said were Soviet-era drones - at Engels air base, home to Russia's fleet of giant strategic bombers, and in Ryazan, just a few hours drive from Moscow. Kyiv did not directly claim responsibility for the strikes but celebrated them.

[...]

The New York Times, citing a senior Ukrainian official, said the drones involved in Monday's attacks were launched from Ukrainian territory, and at least one of the strikes was made with the help of special forces close to the base.

[...]

Ukrainian presidential adviser Oleksiy Arestovych went further, noting that Engels was the only base Russia has that is fully equipped for the giant bombers which Russia has used in attacks on Ukraine.

"They will try to disperse (strategic aircraft) to airfields, but all this complicates the operation against Ukraine. Yesterday, thanks to their unsuccessful smoking, we achieved a very big result," he said.

RE: Russia and Ukraine
Here is a nice interview with the Ukrainian human rights lawyer Oleksandra Matviichuk that summarizes the current situation very well. She believes that the solution to this conflict can only be (unfortunately) military but she also believes that Putin and all Russians who participated in his crimes must be put on trial at some time. I found it quite interesting.
