Russia and Ukraine

It’s the same as the Hong-Kong umbrella movement of the coup against Angh-San-Su-Chi in Myanmar. It’s like a “bad example” to have a democratic government nearby. Even if it’s completely harmless.

Similar issue: Wahhabi style Muslims + Iran simply hate us because we are secular. We’re not showing the good example so if there is an opportunity to change us back to what we were more than a century ago, they will invest (put their money) into that. Smile

RE: Russia and Ukraine
They're floating a test bubble for an off ramp (for putin, not his poor joes). His authoritarianism and villainy are what made him a good leader for russia, but now, his closest circle is lying to him. It wasn't putins fault, and this wasn't putins plan. It's all gone horribly wrong and the main thing everyone should know about why is that it had nothing to do with putin.

-and that's why..now, they have to stay forever no matter what. So that putin can salvage the disaster made by others mistakes.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Well, America invaded the country, spend a trillion dollars and ruined millions of lives in order to defeat the Taliban.

And as soon as America left the country the Taliban took over.

So how do you describe this, if not as a gigantic failure?

I think you are right on this. And you are right on Iraq too. I mean in terms of international Law at least. The only difference is that Saddam or the Taliban had nothing that is defendable. So the invader could have been China or Russia I wouldn’t really care.

But the Ukrainians are a modern nation with a rule of law and a democratically elected government (Since the Maidan revolution). They are like the pro-democracy forces in Syria. So for the general public it matters who is fighting and for what.

Another example is the Vietnam War. At that time, it was basically the Vietnamese who were fighting for their homes so at that time, (for many people) the US was the villain.

But I agree on this: Bush created a precedent that was cleverly misused by a person with bad intention like Vlad Putin. In terms of international law, it is true that the US did not have the right to invade Iraq. But I’m not a politician. I can’t really discuss the details. Smile

Carter's purpose was to use them in Afghanistan to weaken Russia -- a long-term goal. At the time it was said that they wanted to make Afghanistan "Russia's Vietnam."

In Syria the US supported ISIS, as long as they were fighting against Assad. Russia stepped in and defeated ISIS in Syria.

Currently there are photos showing soldiers in Ukraine wearing ISIS patches on their uniforms, fighting alongside the Nazis.

The US doesn't prioritize groups that value women's rights or free societies. The US supports groups that help to weaken America's rivals.

Of course. They and others *cough*Bel*cough* are "useful idiots", to use a phrase coined by -- ironically -- Stalin.

Yeah, i wondered as well why Mujahideen existed in the first place. Then i found out CCCP invaded Afghanistan.
I was SHOCKED!!!!

What i have NOT found out yet is: How the US was responsible for CCCPs invasion in the first place. Probably a plot to strenghten pruducers of the Stinger missiles.

Bel is partly right on this. It was the US supplied weapons that were used against coalition forces in the 2000’s. Afghanistan is the ugliest face of competing regional powers and Imperialism. But it was the Russians who first became involved in Afghanistan thinking of it as a Tibet-like trophy to their ever-growing empire. And that was a turning point. If only they had just left that country alone. Another opportunity was missed when the Nationalist leader Ahmad Shah Massoud was assassinated in 2001 3-4 days before 9-11.

The opportunity today is the son of Shah Massoub who is still resisting in the mountains. But that’s the ugliness of international politics. Russia wants that, Iran supports that, Saudi Arabia sends it’s support to that, China believe in that solution, Pakistan sees no solution (so they end up being bombed by the Taliban themselves). So International politics is a real mess sometimes. Bel is totally right on that and I agree with him.

But still: there has to be a balance. There has to be limits. The Ukrainian people have made their choice. So have the People of Taiwan. So for now, we have to respect that.

But Iraq and/or Afghanistan? – I simply don’t know. I don’t even have any real solution for the Kurds as a whole right here right now. I just don’t. Smile

Have you ever tried looking into sources that disagree with your position? That called, you know, learning about stuff.

LOL Lawrence Wilkerson. The guy who fell for the faulty intelligence that started the Iraq War. Yeah, let's listen to that guy's opinion on another war. It funny how Bel goes on about forever wars and then cites someone whose lack of foresight led to one as a reliable source simply because he says what Bel wants to hear.

Oh and do I need to point out he's been a consistent guest on ....You guest it... Russia Today...But that's surely a coincidence.
