Russia and Ukraine
RE: Russia and Ukraine
Russia’s Gazprom posts first annual loss in 20 years as sales to Europe collapse

Kremlin-owned gas giant Gazprom plunged to a net loss of 629 billion rubles ($6.9 billion) in 2023, its first annual loss in more than 20 years, as sales to Europe plummeted in the wake of Russia’s war in Ukraine.

The earnings, announced Thursday, highlight the dramatic decline of Gazprom, one of Russia’s most powerful companies.

Analysts had expected net income of 447 billion rubles ($4.9 billion) in 2023, according to Interfax news agency. The company made a net profit of 1.2 trillion ($13.1 billion) rubles in 2022, the year Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The company’s core profit, or earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization known as EBITDA, dropped to 618.38 billion rubles ($6.7 billion) last year from 2.79 trillion rubles ($30.4 billion) in 2022, according to Reuters’ calculations.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

ATACMS are already doing a lot of good:

https://www.yahoo.com/news/ukraine-wiped...54518.html

In TV debates they say that Russia is about to make another major push to break Ukrainian lines. But the Ukrainians have already dug-in into concrete + dragon teeth defense lines behind the actual front. They seriously lack manpower, that’s why Emmanuel Macron said that he would send French troops to Ukraine if the Russians were able to break Ukrainian defense lines.

So what is likely to happen is Russian continuing with their salami-slice tactics, advancing village by village, small settlement by small settlement.

The important bit from that link:

Not simply "worthless", but untenable, insofar as the missiles can reach the Kerch bridge and all other land supply-routes.

‘Untenable’ doesn’t seem to be a word in Putin’s lexicon. I think, no matter what the price in men and materials, he will - with Soviet-era pigheadedness - keep trying to hold Crimea. In a very real way, this would be a gift for Ukraine.

He has to retain Crimea -- it is a stated war aim, and backing away from that is politically dangerous.

Once he ‘retires’ to his ‘dacha’, the next Russian in charge will leave Crimea like a bat out of hell.

Multiple European intelligence agencies accuse Russia of plotting sabotage across the continent

European intelligence agencies issued a major warning and accused Russia of “plotting violent” acts of sabotage across the continent as the Russia-Ukraine war continues to escalate.

The intelligence agencies have warned their governments that Russia has already begun to more actively prepare covert bombings, arson attacks and damage to infrastructure on European soil, directly and via proxies. The Intelligence officials warned that the Russian forces have little to no regard for civilian lives while conducting such operations.

The proclamation from Haldenwang came just days after two German-Russian nationals were arrested in Bayreuth, Bavaria. They were arrested by the German police for allegedly plotting to attack military and logistics sites in Germany on behalf of the Kremlin.

Meanwhile, in the United Kingdom, two men were charged with having started a fire at a warehouse containing aid shipments for Ukraine, last month. Following the arrest the prosecutors accused them of working for the Russian government.

In Sweden, security services are investigating a series of railway derailment incidents and in Estonia, the country’s Internal Security Service said that the attack on the interior minister’s car in February, this year, was allegedly perpetrated by Russian intelligence operatives

Not only this, Russia was also accused of attempting to destroy the signalling systems on Czech railways by the European nation’s transportation minister

Woah, that's not good! It seems that Russia is desperately trying to win by messing with other countries. Russia's trying to win knows no bounds. It's likely to get them into more trouble than they might get into now.
