An unlikely scenario to be sure, but not an impossible one. But that’s my point - unless we know the motive of ANY person shot by a civilian, it’s damned difficult to know how many lives are saved by guns. But we can be fairly confident that it’s not the 300 000 FA imagines it to be.

I think a much more likely is 300k a year stop an incident. Burglars and rapists detered for instance.

When I had CCW classes here at my place I heard more than a few stories of guns preventing bad shit from happening - and in each case a shot was not fired. Just the presence of the gun was deterrent enough. Saved lives? In one case - it was quite likely.

But again - the media doesn' t print horrible things averted....

Burglaries and rapes don’t generally result in deaths. FA’s claim was that guns save 300 000 lives per year.

I meant in the sense of people getting shot.  A successful civilian shooting still adds another shooting to the numbers in the best of cases.

It's more likely that the presence of a person in the home, and not a gun, thwarts a burglary.   By and large, I don't think there's much opposition to people shooting home invaders.  I suppose we might get around to addressing the risks of organizing our society that way when we get the mass shootings at schools, and nightclubs, and parking lots under control. You know my opinion. I think ideologically motivated gun owners are going to reject and resist even the most routine measures applied to every other facet of our lives until their opposition blanket bans as a reactionary act.

There's many ways you could uprise with better gun control if necessary
One of the main arguments for gun control is so you can fight power effectively if the people need to uprise. Thing is uprising without gun control or with gun control can be bloody inefficient. If you really want to address the issue you have to help each other shift soft power towards correcting institutional abuse which is the root of so much ill feeling. I don't feel the issue of learning to work more optimally with one another is best served by guns.

The ironic thing is more often than not tyrants rise because of guns not in the absence of them
