Seeing "Hidden Network" on my wi fi list.
May 1, 2022 at 9:12 pm
All of the wi fi I am detecting is within my neighborhood, and I am rural. But one keeps popping up "Hidden Network", It keeps coming back, despite my disconnecting, and pops up again when I re connect.
Should I be worried about this?

Does it show up as locked or open?
If I look at my available networks, I see quite a few but most of them are locked.,,as they should be.

Nothing to worry about, citizen.

It shows up as locked.
That's just someone near enough to you that your router sees it. If it's locked it means it's password protected, as yours should be.

Not broadcasting a SSID is an added level of security. Someone still has to know the name of the wireless network to connect, but it isn't being broadcast to the whole world to see. That makes it harder for someone to access the network. they have to know the SSID and the password.

I've been reading various advice sites on this. And for the most part, they are defining it as you guys have here. BUT some of those advice sites do say hackers love hiding hidden networks.
So maybe this isn't an either or issue. It is highly likely it is simply a benign person simply trying to be more secure. But hackers and ID thieves don't want their locations exposed either.
