Persuade me, do you know the shape of this realm?

Can you stretch the line across it an measure it for me?

Regardless of your position, any non-God fearing person should embrace the challenge of proving their knowledge of something as foundational as the ground we stand upon.

We have a number of ways of telling the shape of the earth.
1: We have a working physics that says that a body the size of the earth should be a sphere because of gravity.
2: we can observe other bodies of a similar size and see that they are spheres.
3: we have photos and videos from space showing the earth as a sphere.
4: from ancient times they were able to work not only that the earth was a sphere but were able to work out approximately how big a sphere. They did this by finding a well tha the sun shone directly down, at exactly the same time they measured the shadow on sticks to the east and west of the well on flat ground. by measuring the shadow they could work out the angle that world was tilted by and extrapolated the circumference.

So we do know what shape the world is.

1. What is gravity? How do you know that mass pulls on mass? I have observed that what goes up must come down based on buoyancy and density. Why does a stone sink and why does a helium balloon defy gravity?

2. If billiards are spheres how can the table be flat? Have you ever used your own telescope to look at a wandering star?

3. From which source? Could that source have the funding to produce fakes?

4. Already addressed this argument but Aristophanes proved that IF the sun was much larger and much further away from Earth then he could determine Earth's curvature using a well and a long pole.
The problem with his measurements is that his first assumptions could be wrong.
So no Aristophanes did not prove Earth's curvature because he failed to prove that the sun was much larger than Earth.
Nor did he prove that all of the sun's rays hit earth in parallel (as you can observe in many photos of light passing through our clouds).

Also, we have plenty of independent high-altitude footage available on BitChute which shows localized hotspots underneath the Sun.

"Did you also catch Mount Everest with the telescope? Considering that it is the highest mountain in the world it should be seen everywhere, but it's not because the Earth is round." - Fake Messiah.

Why do we have telescopes? Why can't we just see every star anytime we want to? Is it possible that there is a limit to how much light our eyes can gather and discern? Can you perceive an ant crawling along the ground from more than 300 feet away? If you were standing at one end of a football field would you be able to see a cockroach walking along the other end-zone? Or would you need aid? What about a sound? Would if somebody shot a gun from more than a mile away? Now would if that gun were suppressed? Would you still hear it? Or would you need a device to help you hear something that far away and that quiet?

Stones don't all sink.

Quote:and why does a helium balloon defy gravity?
It doesn't.  Gravity is the reason that they float.

In both cases, displaced volumes lead to one thing or the other being pulled more strongly towards earths cog. In the case of dense stones that do sink, the stone is heavier than the displaced volume of water. In the case of balloons, the helium is lighter than the displaced volume of air.

The force on an object is the sum of the gravitational force going down and the buoyant force going up. The sum determines the direction of acceleration.

If you remove the air in a container, the balloon will also fall downwards because there would be no buoyant force.

Quote:2. If billiards are spheres how can the table be flat? Have you ever used your own telescope to look at a wandering star?

Yes, I have. I have looked at planets many times through my own telescope. Jupiter and Saturn are the easiest ones (being quite large). Both are clearly round and the rings of Saturn are easily seen. Mars is also clearly round and you can often see markings to witness rotation. Venus varies in size and brightness in a vary interesting way that shows it is orbiting the sun.

Any surface looks flat on a small enough scale.

Quote:3. From which source? Could that source have the funding to produce fakes?

Sure. But why?

It is easy to determine the distance to the moon using basic geometry. it is clear from eclipses that he sun is farther away than the moon.

Using the phases of Venus (observable through a telescope), it is clear that Venus orbits the sun, is a sphere, and is farther away than the moon.

Given the trigonometry between the moon and Venus, it is then clear that the sun is very far away compared to the moon.

All of this is visible with a fairly simple telescope.

As for masses attracting other masses, it is possible to perform the Cavendish experiment at home.

Good thing Polymath is here, otherwise the God-less dogpile would have to show their work.

Don't worry guys, Polymath has done all of the work for you already and he's already reached the right conclusions on your behalf, you don't need to go snooping around for evidence or thinking critically for yourself.

Go back to bed, Polymath will tuck you in and keep you there if you let him.

You could do all sorts of fun experiments at home to figure out how and why displacement works.

I'm all ears,

Name a few.

You don't have to trust me. You can get a telescope yourself and look. it isn't that hard or even that expensive. Don't get a department store telescope: the optics are horrible and the mounts are unstable. But you can get a decent scope for less than $300.

In fact, I encourage people to do this. It is a fun and fascinating hobby.
